Hi,

I have an appointment with a consultant next week to discuss not going overdue over 41 weeks (so being induced at 41 weeks rather than 42 weeks) reasons being; traumatic first birth, induced at 42 weeks, 9lb baby, 3.5 hour labour and ending with assisted delivery and epistomony, plus i don't have any childcare after 41 weeks for my DD (24 months). Has anyone else had this experience, do you think the consultant will agree?

Thanks

I think they would most likely agree. But not sure that you would benefit?

1 week earlier won't make a huge difference to weight of baby now, and IMHO you are much less likely to need assisted delivery/epidural etc in a labour that starts naturally, when your body is ready.

An induced labour has the clock ticking from the beginning and is more likely to have more intervention. I would consider looking at 'expectant manangement', and bear in mind that normal is 37-42 weeks, you are not overdue til after 42 weeks.

Hope you thrash out a plan you are happy with.

I just had the opposite problem, trying to avoid induction at 41 weeks!

TO be fair though he was not the scary situation I feared, had plenty of time to labour and began contracting after the first time gel was inserted. My hospital would induce at 10 days, and possibly before but I'm sure consultants vary.
