Wrexham Maelor?

Hi, I had my last baby (10 years ago) at Wrexham Maelor. I had a great labour but ante- and post-natal care not too great (I stayed in the night before as I was induced). Has anyone had any experience of it recently?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

No experience myself, but would you be eligible for MW care at Oswestry? Shropshire has such a highly regarded service and it's not too far away from wrexham, IIRC.

I'm not really near Wrexham, I'm on the Chester border so I have a choice of Chester or Wrexham, unfortunately. Thanks anyway!

You can go anywhere.
If your low risk i`d def recommend Oswestry even if its a lot further will be worth it-othyerwise del at Wrexhm and transfer to Os for pn stay.
Wrexham does have a highish cs rate.

My family all live near Wrexham and apparently Chester is always the hospital of choice - They think that the Maelor is grubby. Not sure what the birthing experience is like though, it's mainly my 90 year old nan who goes there!

I had my first baby at Chester and it was awful, very traumatic, very unneccesrily high-tech, horrible midwife (the one I had nyway!), dirty ward... but that WAS 13 years ago, so maybe it's better now? I did think Maelor wasn't the cleanest hospital I'd ever been in. I have a choice of Maelor or Chester simply becuse I don't fancy an hour's drive to Oswestry when I'm in labour!

Hi I had both my DS's in Wrexham - one is 4yrs the other is 9wks and had no problems either time. The midwifes the second time especially were lovely but then I have no other hospital labour ward to compare it to! The hospital itself could do with a bit of a facelift but the room I gave birth in was clean and perfectly adequete. The ward I went onto afterwards was fine too though the staff here could have been more helpful - left to get on with it unless you asked them for help which suited me really anyway! I went on a tour of the ward beforehand so I knew where everything was - ask your midwife, she may be able to arrange it

I think I will go on a tour, rather than just sit here dithering. Thanks!

I've doulaed at births at Chster and Wrexham. Good births at both, but not the nicest hospitals.
Could you consider a homebirth?

I would give my eye teeth to have a home birth but as I have massive babies both MW and nervous DP want me to go into hospital. I just hate hospitals tbh, they're noisy and dirty. I'm just going to have to try and get out of there ASAP after baby is born... wish me luck...

I'm sure you have looked into all this, but if you have had previous normal deliveries of big babies, there is no reason why you couldn't consider a home birth.
