had a waterbirth too

Thomcat · 11/08/2005 10:45

listen i had tried everything too, everything and I was desperate to not be induced, it just wasn't an option. So I got on the castor oli and it was the best thing I could have done. i doidn't have an awful toilet experience, I went, had a bit of a clear out, which was most welcome actually, and then 3 hours later i went into labour and another 6 hours later i had my baby girl in my arms. I'll be doing it again this time round as well.
I downed a bottle mixed with fresh orange juice and did it over the sink! The urge to have the baby out and not be induced was so strong, it really wasn't that bad. 4 of my friends have also done it and it worked for us all.
Good luck. TC x

MissChief · 11/08/2005 10:47

thanks TC - tempting enough to make me toddle off to get some from chemists! Like you want to do anything to avoid induction as wd like home-birth.

I was exactly the same but once i smelt it i just couldn't possibly drink it

Thomcat · 11/08/2005 11:15

they might not sell it to you, you might have to get soemone else to get it. DP got mine.
I'd like a home birth too, and alkso I wanted all my natural endorphones to kick in rather than be thrown straight into labour. I wanted the birth to be as 'natural' as possible with no intervention from anyone else.
I'm not telling you to do castor oil cos you have to be sure that;s what you want. i'm just telling you it worked brilliantly for me, for my 4 friends, and i'd do it again.
Best of luck hon.
If you do do it, you might have a worse toilet experience than me and it might take longer to work.
How overdue are you?
i was 10 days late.
Perhaps I'd have gone into labout that night anyway?

sweetkitty · 11/08/2005 11:20

My suggestion is this
plan a last week off with your DP before the bub arrives, plan a few romantic meals and trips to the cinema, also plan to buy the car seat base and the crib (basically have not a lot ready for the baby), buy a car and don't even have time to go to the post office and tax it.......then the baby will decide to make an appearance on the Monday night of the start of DP's holiday 15 days early!!

spacecadet · 11/08/2005 11:28

lol at sweetkitty's suggestion.

Thomcat · 11/08/2005 14:01

How's it going mischeif.

Stimulation nipples works as well, apparently.
Sex has to be rampant.
Curries have to be v v hot
a relexology massage by someone who knows what they are doing

champs · 12/08/2005 14:15

lol@sweetkitty!!

Thomcat -- good to hear c/o worked for you. i can't even bear the thought of twiddling nips, they're so tender even my clothes hurt! think i'll bounce on my birthing ball and do some tidying. not overdue but want baba today!

MissChief -- how are you? any twinges??

bambi06 · 12/08/2005 14:38

my ds was 19 days late and i refused to be induced and my dd was 10 days late but with dd i used homeopathy which worked wonders for me as it kept kick starting the labour but it needed a few doses to keep it going but labour was very quick after that so relax and enjoy the time you`ve got now, why do you want to be induced as baby obviously doesnt want to come yet .

bambi06 · 12/08/2005 14:39

p.s where are you and i can send some remedies if you`re interested

Catbert · 12/08/2005 20:47

Oh - Just thought of something else...

A stiff G&T.

After everything else I was trying, my sister suggested it (after having it recommended to her by someone who swore it kicked off both her labours). Sister said it did the trick for her too (first baby, 6 days over) and alledgedly it's something in the gin or the tonic (can't remember which - so suggest def. have both) and it was the last thing I did that evening before retiring to bed, to have strong contractions kick in at 3am.

What the heck I say - it's not a bad idea at any time

Thomcat · 13/08/2005 09:42

MissCheif, are you having tht baby, is that where you are?

KiwiKate · 13/08/2005 09:56

Yep, maybe the casteroil did it?

For the others of you desperate to avoid induction, remember that in France 42 weeks is considered a normal gestation period and inductions are only usually considered at 44 weeks! If you don't want to be induced, then you don't have to be as a routine matter. Of course it is a different story if there are indications that your baby is under stress, or there are other medical reasons for the induction.

MissChief · 14/08/2005 08:58

hi girls -yep had the baby at home as planned, hours before being hauled in for induction.

Big thanks for all your ideas - no idea what worked, or combination of all but 8 lb Masterchief2 born Thurs night - we're all doing fine!

Ooh - well done and congratualtions!

MissChief · 14/08/2005 08:59

meant to say - hours before being hauled in for induction as obviously managed to avoid it, nothing like a bit of pressure at the last minute! Thanks again and best wishes to you all.
