im 40+2, first baby...

Im having conttractions 4 mins apart- have been on a stupid monitor at the hospital for an hour- and then the horrific internal showed that my cervix is still too posterior for it to be 'labour'

The trace did pick up the contractions, and I passed a massive bloody show this morning.( sorry) I ended up in hospital seen as I had a trickle of water this morning too- andtold the midwife at my routine appt today. who sent me straight to the hospital.

I am really feeling these pains quite badly and it has been 4 hours of them being regular- now getting closer together... the MW at the hospital basically said 'come back in when your waters break properly' and take some paracetamol....she even said see your community midwife again....what?? (confused)

Im now sitting in bed on MN, watching 24- and moaning like a banshee every 4 mins. hot waterbottle and paracetamol. Damn do I want a Gin and tonic (blush)
what should I do? at what point do i do anything?

not, sorry... am just getting a bath. mw said it was 'latent phase probably.' and anyway things have settled right down- 40s and now about 6-8 mins apart.
my plan is to have a bath; try to get some sleep. Will update as I go. cant imagine husbo will be sharing my bed tonight- he'll be on the sofa with ear plugs!!

good luck, hope the bath helps!

KnitterNotTwitter · 02/06/2010 22:55

oooh - good luck. Hope the bath helps. When you're having your 'contractions' try blowing raspberries. It really helped me and is supposed to encourage things along!! If you've not had any progress in the morning a nice walk should help if you feel you can, otherwise up and down the stairs is a good idea too...

GOOD LUCK

nicm · 02/06/2010 23:16

NEWS!!!
so, I was awake all wednesday night with contractions 4-6 mins apart. I just made loads of noise to cope with them, and watched 5 episodes of 24 in the spare room...
When the husbo woke up I went back to bed after a bath ( which slowed things to 10 mins apart) until 11 and they were getting worse 1min 4 mins apart, found the 'boost' button on the tens v.helpful! still humming/ toning through them. husbo rang the hospital, they said wait until 3 mins apart, husbo suggested a walk at 12, got out of bed and dressed...suddenly 2 mins apart; no walk! straight to the hospital ( via the library as I was adamant that i wasnt going to get a fine!) and internal at 1pm showed i was 7 cm dilated!with bulging membranes. ( woop).

I got in the birth pool by 145 ish; very chilled out, and continued to use my noise to cope. no more examinaminations ( brilliant) and then at 4.38 she arrived. Membranes went at 430 ( so amusing about the aadvice I was given!)

I tried gas and air inn 1 contraction and didnt like it as it ruined my flow with the sounds. Tried to use it for the exam after but couldnt sort it. Husband was a gem; and actually held my whole weight as i delivered her.

I panicked alot in transition and when she crowned. My 'toning' went a bit wrong at transition; I used all my range and am sure you could hear me miles away!!!

; only 2 pushes needed ( a big poo!!), but a natural 3rd stage, 1st degree tear that didnt need stitches, a 2 pint haemorrage ( no intervention though- just chocolate and jelly beans to cope with that!) Just so thrilled; it was great and I would totally do it again. She swam and splashed before she cried and husbo cut the cord. She fed straight away and we got home from hospital at lunchtime today.

Congratulations, sounds like early labour, I had very regular contractions and went in early at 4am having had contractions two minutes apart lasting over a minute for over 4 hours. Midwife said you are not in active labour yet i.e. not yet 3cm dilated, come back when contractions are so painful you can't speak. She said docs would press for induction if I stayed which would be completely unecessary in normal labour, but they do like to intervene so I went home to more comfortable surroundings was a good choice for me. Still call in though so they know to be ready for you just in case. Bath can help, I found it too painful as couldn't be in right position, early on found rocking hips in circular motion whilst sitting on exercise ball helped later just held onto end of cot and marched standing up whilst trying to breathe. Crawling around on all fours can help too, even if you look a bit strange, can't do that in the hospital with ease
