40+2 weeks pregnant and fed up, still wait for VBAC or ELCS now?!

I'm 40+2 weeks pregnant with baby No 2. I had an EMCS 3 years ago for No 1 (PROM so induced, I got a temperature, she was in distress etc).

The plan this time was to try a VBAC if I went into spontaneous labour. I thought I was going into labour about 2 weeks ago, but it must have just been practice contractions. I thought after that that I was going to be early and although I've had a few niggles and lots of twinges I'm still waiting. I'm beginning to think that my body isn't made for a natural birth and that it's just not going to happen!

I've got an appointment with the consultant this afternoon and the plan was to book an ELCS for 40+10, but I'm getting really fed up now and am thinking about asking to be booked in as soon as possible.

I'm in the same boat! EMCS just over 3 years ago, just about to hit 40 weeks. I want to get to 40+10 as well if possible before going for a section if need be. I'm doing natal hypnotherapy CDs to keep me calm and lots of walking to keep me active. I'm trying to see each day as more relax time, but it's not easy! Let me know how you get on.

Hi guys

Same boat here. 40+3, previous emergency caesarean 2 years ago and hoping for vbac in birth centre. But starting to get cold feet. Feeling very nervous about possible scar rupture and ability to cope with another hideous complicated labour.

Having mild contractions but could be Branston Hicks. Haven't got a clue!

My last 2 babies (DC 3 and 4) were both born at 42 weeks. As I'd had a previous section I couldn't be induced so my only option was to have my waters broken or another section - neither of which I wanted.

Both babies were born hours before I was due to see the consultant. Relatively quick labours - 7 and 4 hours - and fab birth weights - 9'5 and 10'14!

I know how miserable it can be waiting (especially the last week for me as I had 3 children and school runs) but if you want a VBAC, hang on in there. I persuaded the consultants both times to wait until 42 weeks as hospital policy was 41 and it paid off.

Good luck!

Just got back from my consultant appointment. She wanted to book me in for 40 +15 which I wasn't very happy about so I'm booked in for 40 +11. She did a stretch and sweep too which will hopefully starts things off, but I have just spoken to my midwife and she thinks it's unlikely (cervix is posterior, 1cm dilated and medium consistency, head at -3 status). Midwife is going to try again on Friday.
