scared about labouring with piles

36 weeks with first baby, and I've just developed horrendous grape-sized external piles -- I've been in agony all day, even though I slathered myself with anusol and used a suppository.

But I'm now worried that if they don't go away or get worse, I'm going to be in even more agony than I would be otherwise when I go into labour. Does anyone have any experience of this they'd care to share? (I'm a first-timer, but I'm pretty tough.)

I had piles on dc2 I found pushing fine I sat against the bed with the bed back about 45degree angles and flopped my legs (like in a smear to push) sorry if tmi it didn't add any pressure to my bum and my piles didn't worsen dd pushed out in two minutes so it is also a effective position.

Been there with ds! Got bad piles after dd, and they re-emerged (!) towards the end of my pregnancy with ds. I won't lie, I was aware of it being sore as ds crowned, but then everything is sore just then, and gas and air certainly takes the edge off.

Make sure you have the good pile cream for after the birth - something like proctosedyl; they gave this to me after dd was born.

Oh, and pack something very cold - sports ice packs are good - to sit on afterwards! Hospital gave me an ice pack on the ward - it was bliss.

Make sure you have a slippery cream - not anusol. IME all the ones with zinc in them are crap. You need one that is more like a gel. Your midwife can give you a prescription.

I didn't even notice mine during birth, but they were quite sore afterwards. So def worth stocking up on cream etc. beforehand.

Good luck!

Thanks all. I think I'm going to go to the doc to see if there's anything more effective that I can put on my poor bottom than anusol, which is yes useless. Taking paracetamol does take the edge off, but they're bleeding all the time. Nasty.

You need to take Proctosedyl suppositories and cream together.Relief within hours, keep using.Mine became impacted after DS1,couldn't sit,stand,walk...anything.These were great, really worked. Not sure if you can take them before baby out,but deffo ask for both after.
