1st timer with A LOT of pressure

Sorry silly 1st timer question for you....

Last 3 days ive been getting these pressure pains every ten mins or so, like baby is burrowing down. It takes my breath away at times, have to stop talking and if im walking I have to stop, not even a bath takes the edge off it. Even at aquanatal this morning it continued for the time I was in the pool. Ive been having BH for a while, but they certainly havent been as painful as this before My bump goes hard all over.

Is this just baby engaging? She is still quite active. Im 36+3 and had a small show last week if that helps. My midwife is on holiday so I cant call her, and worry that id be wasting the delivery suites time if I called them.

Thanks girls

sounds like braxton hicks , and if the baby is low, then you do get more pressure in your bum and down below generally

your body is gearing up for labour and things are getting ready for the real thing

if you are worried, you can call the delivery suite or AN ward for advice

if the pains are not getting stronger, more regualr or closer together, with no loss of fluid or blood, then it is more than likely your body practising for labour

a show can mean labour is about to start, or it could be weeks away.. if the show was bloody, it can be a sign dilation is starting..

Thanks Lulumaam, did wonder if it was most likely BH. Somebody needs to right the truth about BH in books, they do hurt, lol

Ladyemma - I could have written your post (except not 1st baby).

I was trying to explain the sensation to DH earlier and you described it exactly, it really takes your breath away, doesn't it?!
Annoyingly, I can't remember how close to going into labour it began last time though.

Ladyemmalou83 · 25/05/2010 20:15

I honestly cant describe it any other way, lol. She burrows and pushes down, causing pain in the (sorry tmi) pubic triangle area, normally all on the front, although sometimes the pressure happens on the bottom areas too. Its so strange.

Yeah it truely does take my breath away. The instructor at aquanatal this morning thought I was pulling faces because of the workout....ur defo not, it was because of bump doing her thing.

Pity you cant remember, would love to have known

I used to get this sudden discomfort when my daughter was poking my cervix with what turned out to be her hand.... is there any chance it could be that??! Or BH as the others have said.

Ladyemmalou83 · 25/05/2010 20:30

oh blimey, that must have been uncomfortable!?! Bump was ROA last time MW checked, so it could be, was hoping its more her head trying to engage.

I wish I knew what the little tinker is up too, hopefully she wont do it overnight again like she has done the last 2 nights

Ladyemma - It happened to me in Asda at the weekend and the poor 16ish yr old lad on the tills thought I'd gone into labour!!

It was so painful I had to breathe through it, I've never seen a lad go so pale so quickly!

Ladyemmalou83 · 25/05/2010 20:58

Oh bless him, bet he was well scared! I love the way everytime a pregnant lady has a grimice on her face people think there in labour, my sister does this to me everytime (clearly she has watched too many hollywood films).

Well hubby had just downloaded himself a contraction timer for his i phone. He wants to time the pressure pains 'just to be sure'

Tell him not to go too much by the timing of things though. When it is labour you will know, it is so full on you won't be typing here and it doesn't just take your breath away. It's so much more than that.

In my opinion, if you are having contractions and think they are anything less than monumentally painful, then I reckon you are not properly in labour and you should rest and keep your powder dry, so to speak.

Sonilaa · 26/05/2010 08:18

agree with e3chick, when labour really starts you will ask yourself how you could ever have mistaken bh for the real thing.

I had a lot of painful bh from about 35 weeks with dc2, they were quite regular sometimes as well and I was turning up in the antenatal ward a few times like the women in the sitcoms...

Thanks for your advice girls. What ever they were, they stopped around 11pm last night, woke up with them again around 3am, then they went again. Back up again at 8am with them and there still lingering now. I totally agree with you, if they were the real thing I would probably know about it (eeeekkk)

2ndcoming - good luck with the walking like John Wayne
