Any tips for hospital bag for a C Section?

I have just had my C Section moved forward to this Monday, this is my first pregnancy and suddenly I am crapping it!

Anyway, apart from the usual, does anyone have any tips as to what to pack for either myself or baby? I will be in for about 5 days

Thanks

Good point about the pen Hazlenut, I wrote all my birth announcements whilst in hosp (when ds was asleep of course!)

Some spray on mositure cream so that you can mositurize without having to move alot. I used chanel moisture mist spray for my legs. Also put everything within reach before your op - have it all handy on your bedside table as you wont be moving around alot in the hours after the op. Things like a mirror & comb, lipsalve, drinks, phone list, phone, breastpads if bf, tissues. Best wishes for monday xxx

Thank you. I took the advice about the knickers, god they really horrible. Proper granny pants! He he! But I know I will appreciate them tomorrow!

If all goes to plan, I will be a Mum this time tomorrow. Crazy! Thanks again.

All the best Nat. Let us know how you go on.

one tip a friend who had an emergency cs gave me was to shave down below yourself. As she was given a scratchy dry shave at the hospital.

Have fun!

Me too, i reommend BIG cheep knickers that you can chuck.
I also highly recommend the disposable knickers because you dont have to bend down to take them off which is sore, all you do is tear them at each side and bin em.

Don't wear coloured nail varnish as they will take it off, and they won't do it neatly.

jane313 · 07/08/2005 20:05

really? why is that then? something do with anasthetic?

jamboure · 07/08/2005 20:51

Big pants to cover your wound hun.

ixel · 07/08/2005 21:02

Something to clean the loo seat, or those covers you put over, as there's no way you'll be hovering above it! You get so far down, then just flop!
I lived off dextrose sweets for the first day or so after, so take lots.
If the phones are on a card system, make sure you buy loads on your way in, rather than running out when you have no one there to get more for you. You can always sell or give away any leftovers.

Yes, they look for colour changes in the nail bed as a first indication of problems.

Friend of mine who is an obstetric registrar says they are always having women needing c-sections who have had beautiful pedicures done as pampering before the birth but it all has to come off. Stick to clear and you should be fine...

I got away with keeping my nail polish as there was no time to remove it(big emergency section) I know its for a good reason, but I'd have felt so naked!

A few people asked me to keep you posted, so thought I would let you know that my Daughter was born last Monday at 11.46am weighing 7lb 5oz. We called her Missy May, slightly unusual but I love it!

A big bar of Galaxy for afterwards.
Earplugs if you're in a ward because some people snore like monsters!
Magazines because if you are anything like I was, I couldn't concentrate long enough to read a book.
Walkman/MP3 player becuase it gets b-o-o-o-o-ring.
A bag full of posh, expensive toiletreis, face creams and a little bit of emergency make-up. After HOURS and HOURS in a grotty hospital bed, you can at least make your first shower seem like a trip to a spa.
Flip flops for the shower because when you think about the amount of blood and guts those floors see you'll want something to protect your tootsies.
Buy at least one pack of newborn sleepsuits. I only had 0-3 which swamped dd for the first 2 weeks, and if you don't use them, you can always return them.

Good luck, all will be wonderful and by monday evening you'll have forgotten all your worries about teh section and will ahve a whole new set about being a Mummy.
