Long cord, placenta was a struggle to get out...

I have been thinking about my 2nd labour (dd1 23mo, dd2 3mo) and keep thinking about the 3rd stage.

All was fine in my pregnancy, easy quick labour, dd2 was back to back but turned in labour. She had her hand on her face and the cord around her like a seat belt.

When I came to deliver the placenta I needed gas and air because the cord was so long and I could feel the mw pulling it.

I had to cough a lot to get the placenta out and could tell the mw was starting to panic.

Has anyone experienced this before? With my first daughter I didnt even notice the 3rd stage.

Im worried if I have a 3rd baby I will have the same or a retained placenta.

Hiya, I've had 4 babies, 1st time round the placenta being delivered was a blur, subsequent labours were all different but I have stronger memories of the placenta being delivered.

I don't see what difference a long cord would make

I think you are overthinking things about future pregnancie tbh.

Don't worry similar happened to me this time and I didn't dwell on it. DS2 (DC3) born (stand up, no need to push) totally tangled in cord. They had to cut to give him oxygen, then I lay on bed and they tried to pull placenta, as I hadn't needed to push the baby out came as quite a surprise that I really had to push the placenta out and they had to take the G&A away so I could focus on the pushing. Don't worry these things are different every time.

I had a retained placenta which had to be manually removed with my 1st, now pregnant with my 2nd and worried it will happen again. Have been told it is more likely however it isn't a definate it will. I have requested if it does happen again that I have GA as the thing that terrifies me the most is the being awake again.

I feel much more relaxed about it now. Speak to your midwife and go through your options with them.
Like I said it isn't a definate, in my case it got stuck to my womb lining which they put down to the speedy delivery of DD. I am probably one of the few women praying for a longer labour this time.
