Dolphin music? Yuck
Having said that I had Schubert's Trout quintet.

How about "I will survive!"

With my first baby, I hadn't packed my suitcase when I went into labour. I wasn't early, just inefficient and assuming baby would be late. Threw nearest music into bag as leaving the house, hence Trout Quintet.

With 2nd baby, I carefully chose uplifting music and didn't feel like listening to any of it; baby born quite quickly.

Third baby: listened to the radio.

Eva Cassidy-Baby listened in the womb, at birth and ever since....no wonder he rolls his eyes whenever its on now bless him!

But honestly i love her music.

2nd baby same was planned but he decided to come out very quickly by surprise so didn't get the chance!

I had fun making a mix for my ipod in the weeks leading up to the birth of my twins. Me and dp both had brainstorming sessions coming up with favourites singles and bands from the last 30 years. They are individual to me so it would depend on your taste in music, but they were all songs that made me go off into a dream or really moved me.
I loved the mix so much I oftened listened to it to get to sleep at night which probably helped its association with relaxation when I came to give birth.

In the event it was bang on and I was able to shut out the world with it on loud in my ears.

I remember:
Kate Bush - "This woman's work" amongst others
Air - "All I need"
Frankie goes to Hollywood(!) "The Power of Love"
A lovely, beautiful song from the film 'Hable Con Ella' called Cuccurrucucu (I think).
Roberta Flack - "The First time ever I saw your face"
Ooh, lots of others that I can't remember at this precise moment and the playlist has now been accidentally deleted....
We spent a few fun evenings on itunes, going down memory lane.

I think that if you like it, and you like going to sleep to it then that is a very good start for it being soothing in labour. Having said that I know someone who had motown songs on, whereas they would be far too jingly for me in labour.

I asked my husband to put some music on - he chose the "Chameleon" album by Children of Dub. It was perfect for me, exciting yet easy to relax to. I had a huge wave of emotion when the first track came on.

Seriously, I reckon any music that you really like singing, humming or just listening to would be good. It taps into the primitive parts of your brain, helps you bypass the less-than-helpful-in-labour human part of your brain doesn't it?

I was the same as e3chick, sat for ages with laptop and ipod downloading favourite songs but unfortunately DD2 decided to arrive quickly, thought we were heading into the hospital to be sent home again, but straight into labour suite.

DP didn't even have time to go back and get my bags for me, luckily I had the Mumford & Sons album in my handbag, so that was our music, didn't even get through the whole album

But it was lovely having my ipod with the lovely calm music on it to listen to on the ward as I was in for 4 days after the birth. It kept me sane!
