Possitive Stories of good VB after complicated first Birth

Hi All,

Just looking to hear from those of you who have uncoplicated seconed births after problems first time round.

Due to a forceps delivery with DD the midwife has this time around refered me to see the consultant. Still have three week's to go before my appointment. I worried they will try and push me towards an ELCS which I really don't want. The reasion they may sujest this is DD got stuck at the shoulders on the way out, but she was in a bad possition for birth from the start. My ideal plan would be only to consider a CS if baby was in bad possition this time round. The midwifes had spotted this before I went into labour DD was back to back, but when she came out the consultant had notted that she had also been wedged at an odd angle. They though it was highly unlikly I would have ever been able to deliver her without intervention.

I know some off you may think I'm mad not wanting to have a CS espically as I suffered a 3rd trear. Which healed without any problems and was coursed when her shoulders got stuck. But I really don't see why I should pushed into an intervention I don't want if there is no indication of same problems occuring with seconed pregancy. I know they can't predict everything.

But I was just hopeing to hear form anyone who's sucessfuly delivered after preivous interventions.

Thanks

I had 3rd degree tear with 1st and C section for second. Loved the C section! was relaxed experience and recovery was quicker than with the tear. Highly recommend. Although I know that is not the option you want to hear about- but I think you should seriously consider it.

With my first I had a prolonged labour with a large back to back baby. Ended in normal delivery with episiotomy followed by retained placenta and huge blood loss. Altogether really traumatic.

Second labour lasted the grand total of 2.5hours, 2nd stage just 2 minutes. A totally different experience from the 1st time. I couldn't believe how well I felt afterwards. I think on the whole 2nd labours are usually better than 1st. Good luck.

Both me and my BF had long, painful and traumatic first birth. Me back to back baby wedged at a weird angle, 36 hours labour delivered with ventouse. Her can't remember the problem but ended up with forceps and episio.

Me second time shorter labour (about 10 hours but only very active for about two)very easy (and not far from painless) labour. Home water birth. No pain relief

BF very short labour to the point that she hardly made it in time to the hospital. She had a normal vaginal delivery and no pain relief.

Good luck and try to stay positive, it really is easier the second time (for most people)

had a horrible 1st labour, OP baby, got stuck, had forceps, episiotomy and tear, large bleed, felt like i'd been run over by a bus!

ds2, went to hospital at 8pm, had him at 10pm, went home at about midnight. Had no pain relief as midwife told me i wasn't in labour until he was almost out! it still hurt, but a totally different experience - like stubbing my toe as opposed to the run over by bus feeling!

part of the success was i think my positive attitude as i thought - it couldn't be worse than with ds1, second babies usually easier. and it was.

I had a horrible labour with DS, he was back-to-back, and the epidural didn't work! I was slow to progress so the midwife had me strapped to the bed on my back (just the position you want to be in with a B2B... not), on a drip to speed up the contractions, broke my waters yet refused me any other pain relief (cow!). After 13 hours I delivered a 10lb 8oz baby, 2nd degree tears, couldn't walk for 6 weeks and PND for about 6 months afterwards. I was very nervous about delivering another big baby, so the consultant agreed I could be induced for DD at 39 weeks. I had an active 5 hour labour, on my feet the whole time, no intervention, delivered my girl with no stitches, back at home a few hours later. It was the complete opposite to my first birth, with DS I felt like a cow on a production line, with DD it was such an empowering, uplifting experience.
Good luck with your labour, I hope it all goes quickly and safely X

DS - 7 weeks in hospital for pre eclampsia. Induced at 38 weeks which took 2 days before I went into labour.
Labour was 24 hours ending up in theatre after failed ventuese. Was going to have emergency cs if forceps failed, which thankfully they didn't. I had about 15 stitches for the episiostemy.

DD almost exactly two year later. Went into labour naturally at 37.2 weeks. Waters broke about 6 in the evening, went to hospital at 8. I was allowed to walk around as much as I wanted, which I wasn't allowed previously. I had no pain relief at all and DD was born 2 hours later.
I felt so different the second time, there was a huge sense of euphoria, just like Bluesunday. No stitches just a tiny tear.

Funny enough they were exactly the same weight and the time they were born was within 5 minutes.

motherofsnortpigs · 12/05/2010 22:13

DD1 - long pregnancy, long induction, long labour, very speedy emcs.

DD2 - textbook pregnancy and labour. Straightforward birth

DS1 - speedy labour, easy birth.

Probably have only been refered to consultant because it is NHS protocol or something. Act like having a section has not even crossed your mind and you may find they don't mention it either

DreamsInBinary · 12/05/2010 22:22

DC1 - episiotomy, ventouse and third degree tear

DC2 - back to back, but only 2 hour labour, and easy peasey

Good luck

Dc1 36+ hours back labour, understaffed hospital, no epidurals on offer, massive panic forceps delivery, I lost 1.2 litres of blood and dc1 in scubu for a week.

DC2, 2.5 hours of actual contractions (before that i thought it was BH and cooked dinner) DC2 born 15 mins after getting to (different) hospital, noone else on the labour ward, calm, quiet and so easy it was a joke compared to dc1.
