Due date was yesterday and in a lot of pain with SPD....induction?

I was due yesterday (first pregnancy) and despite trying pineapple, curries, clary sage baths, raspberry leaf tea for three weeks and reflexology night before last, nothing is happening. MW attempted a sweep yesterday but said the cervix was closed (although only 1cm long)

I know that most of the posters on here say to just relax and enjoy the last few days, but I'm in a lot of pain, have been on crutches since the start of Feb and am now barely able to walk, even with the crutches.

Everything I have heard about induction sounds unpleasant, but I have now decided to forego the water birth that I had planned and will definitely be asking for an epidural (despite deciding against that too) because I have had enough.

Has anybody got any words of wisdom? Please?
Should I ask MW for an induction?

I have another appt next week (will be 41 weeks) and if nothing has happenend by then, I'll be referred to the hospital where they will talk to me about an induction, but I don't think I can last that long. Sorry if I'm sounding completely over the top and melodramatic, I just don't know what to do.

Thanks

My hospital won't induce for SPD. I'm housebound and in a wheelchair for mine and they've already told me not to ask, though the MW will do my sweep early.

If your cervix is shut induction will be LONG and PAINFUL so be careful what you wish for! I know it's horrible, but really, it's only another few weeks and you've already done from Feb to today. Let your body do it gently and naturally and you'll be less likely to need an epidural, forceps, ventouse, or worse, a section.

The easier the birth the quicker you'll fnd the SPD recovery and you'll be glad of it afterwards.

I forgot to say that two weeks ago I started having cramps and tightenings and two MWs thought things were starting - the cramps haven't stopped, they just haven't turned into anything else.

I'm sure someone (sweetkitty) on our may antenatal thread was just induced early for spd so I would ask the individual hospital's policy on it.

I've nothing but sympathy for you, I'm 39 weeks, I have it mildly compared to you and it's still a nightmare, especially when you have other dc to look after. My poor little lad has done nothing but watch cbeebies/play on the floor this morning, I can't do much with him at all.

Thanks trafficcone - I know you're right, I've been housebound pretty much too as I haven't driven for ages, have no family for miles and miles and DH and friends are all at work.
It's horrible, but it must be a lot worse being in a wheelchair, so I shall count my blessings

I would def ask to speak to a consultant at the hospital even just to get the ball moving on induction.
I was induced last wednesday at 40+6wks as I was struggling. I'd had an attempted sweep at 39wks and 40wks. The baby was fine but I have a medical condition which was giving me grief. The consultant did the induction under 'humane' grounds for me rather than obstetric reasons and explained that if the induction didn't work then they wouldn't automatically go CSection route but would break for a day or so then try again.
In the end the induction worked. I can't say if it was more painful than a normal delivery as its my first time. I contracted every 3mins for 12hrs then had a 5hr 'active' labour. And I did it on gas and air and pethidine instead of the early epidural planned by the consultant.

Induction can be a long process but I think its nice that something is actively being done to make you feel better.
