Breach at 20 weeks early but.....

I am 20 weeks pregnant with dc2. I know its still early days but I want to get my head round being breach .

What positions/ things etc. have people tried successfully to encourage babies to move?

What approach does the NHS take on trying to deliver breach babies naturally. Are there any hospitals/consultants etc. that actively support this in London or elsewhere?

I had such trouble finding a birthing centre with pools across town and now I feel like I have to start my research all over again!

At 20 weeks your baby is not breech - it just happens to be bum down and will spin many times before it settles in whatever position, so do not worry too much just know !

Look at the 'Spinning Babies' website (sorry cannot do links at the mo as typing 1 handed whilst BFing - just google it) if your baby turns out to be breech nearer your due date.

External cephalic version should be offered if baby is breech at 37 weeks. Elective CS will be offered to you but most hospital will support informed decision of a vaginal breech delivery if you so wish, they tend to make sure that a midwife experienced in breech deliveries is available.

Sorry, I know nothing specific about the Big Smoke - live in the sticks .

But really, do not worry. At 20 weeks you shouldn't really call it breech, it is just one of many random positions baba will take in the next few weeks and months.

Thanks, I guess I am just stressed out because it seems everything is against me delivering vaginally again (won't bore you) but you're right its not technical breach until further along I just need to mentally prepare myself for options.

DD1 was breach at the 20 week scan and stayed that way. I had ELCS with her and it was fine. DD2 (due start of August) was head down at 20 weeks but who knows what position she will end up in. I have a second ELCS booked for the end of July and will decide nearer the time whether to go down the VBAC route or not. TBH, having never doe anything other than ELCS I'm preferring a second one as at least I know how that works!

I've agreed with my midwife to have a further scan at week 36 then discuss my options. Is this an option for you?

At 20 weeks your baby is not breech - its moving around freely - it might be breech at the scan and head down 20 mins later.

At appointments midwifes did not seem to feel for baby's position until 34 weeks.

However its still good to focus on your posture because this can not only affect whether the baby is breech but also if it ends up being OP.
