make up essential! why? because people want to come in the hospital to see the baby and take photos!

CherryPie3 · 27/04/2010 16:30

Definitely taking my own towels - you're absolutely right Professor - hospitals just do large flannels rather than a lovely comfy fluffy towel

Sunshiney Feel free to template away . I can only go on personal experience wrt to deoderant/soap etc - I never had any problems with my other 2 babies, bonded and breastfed just fine (well, bf ds ok, dd not so well as she was a preemie).

Sungirltan As explained before.....It's my own personal choice and yes I would prefer to look human for when visitors arrive.

The best tips I got included hair bands or clips and lipsalve. I got very dehydrated and my hair really irrriated me so was nice to be able to tie it back and put lipsalve on.

I'm always fascinated by people taking books in! Our hospital didn't let people in until they were well into labour, I don't think I'd have been able to read a book by then!

Good luck with it all.

I'm happy for anyone to use my list for ideas or a template - I'm just glad it was useful and evidently not too wildly off the mark! Considering I haven't done this before.

I feel a little like I'm stealing CherryPie's topic however. Still...it could be worse. At least I'm not eyeballing her username and thinking how tasty it sounds at the moment! I'm nicely full this afternoon.

The book in my bag is for if I get stuck on a ward for several days after the birth and can't sleep, primarily. I'm not bothering to take any 'entertainment' for labour. I get the feeling it'll be 'entertaining' enough!

The book in DH's bag is mostly for if he ends up hanging around after the birth while I'm showering or something and LO is asleep, so he can try and destress himself a bit. Also useful if he ends up needing to take a half hour time out and sit in the corridor during labour, as he's not the best at coping with blood. Gives him something to stare mindlessly at where people hopefully won't disturb him too much.

Hatty I was really calm in labour and I found it easier to have something else to focus on, helped me avoid pain relief until the last bit as well.

I managed to read quite a lot during the early stages of my induction, will definitely bring a book again this time.

Ok, we have the hospital bag 'list' but, I would love to know, what kind of 'bag' you are using?

~ A small carry-on travel bag with wheels?

~ Handle over-the-shoulder bag?

~ What size?

I know, pretty lame question, but, I'm having twins and have been offered a small 19" travel suitcase, and I feel it may not be big enough to hold mine and their belongings.

So now I'm looking for something easy to use and can hold everything I need. I mean, is this an OTT question? or wot?

Hmm... I dunno, I'm pretty hungry this morning, CherryPie... I'll eat my yoghurt and see how I feel after that, but no promises!

I still need to try and stuff everything into the bags I'm intending to use and check the capacity is ok, but what I'm intending currently is:

Labour Bag: Small rolling duffle bag, the type with a handle and wheels at one end but not solid like a suitcase. It's bigger than hand-luggage, but not as big as a suitcase.

Overnight Bag: Rolling airline hand-luggage type bag. This is the one I'm mostly worried about the capacity... Will have to give it a try.

DH's Bag: Medium sized rucksack.

I figured it was easier to drag the bags along rather than carry, and this way means that my pack mule DH can wear the rucksack and pull both the other bags along behind him if necessary.

Hope that helps, Teki!

greensnail · 28/04/2010 09:17

I'm having two bags, one for me and one for the baby. Both are hand luggage size (one is a small case and one is a bag) and both have wheels so DH can pull them along as well as carry whatever else he needs.

CherryPie3 · 28/04/2010 11:39

Hi Teki Congratulations on your twins

I'm using a small carry-on trolley case for my things and a small weekend bad for the baby things.

DH isn't really taking all that much so I intend to try ans stick it in my bag.

Hope this helps hun xx
