Or can you take them out of the house before they have had their jabs?

I know loads about pregnancy/childbirth but nowt about what happens after - I presume baby gets jabs at some point?

The reason I ask is am overdue with baby and the flipping election is may 6th so will be carting very wee one with me as the buggers have lost my proxy vote application [grrr]

You don't have to wait till they have been vaccinated before you take them out .

ShinyAndNew · 23/04/2010 14:34

You can take them out. Whether or not you will have the energy to leave the house is a different matter

The babies get jabs but I don't think the first one is until they are 3 months old.

EccentricaGallumbits · 23/04/2010 14:35

my brother-in-law once asked when DDs eyes would open. he was thinking of puppies

yes - you can take it out. if you are feeling up to it of course.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 23/04/2010 14:36

You can take them out! But other than that I have always treated my children like puppies- I even asked the midwife what age their eyes opened at

Joolyjoolyjoo · 23/04/2010 14:37

x-posts, eccentrica!!

tablefor3 · 23/04/2010 15:56

Toddlers are even more like puppies:

"sit"
"come here"
generally needing to be taken for walks - my DD will even present you with her shoes and coat and then stand by the door wailing waiting....

But, seriously, no, can take them out before jabs. DD went on the tube at 8 days....

Hassled · 23/04/2010 15:57

Babies are generally less hairy.

jeananddolly · 23/04/2010 16:01

Mine went to a dinner party at 12 days old...he was crap at small talk though

thisisyesterday · 23/04/2010 16:12

yes, thankfully you are allowed to take them out before they are vaccinated. otherwise i'd have spent the best part of 5 years indoors!! lol

azazello · 23/04/2010 16:14

Also babies are much much slower than puppies to learn anything. It can take them months to walk...

ditavionteased · 23/04/2010 16:16

but if you put nappies on they don't poo all over the carpet (yet)

Trafficcone · 23/04/2010 16:24

Babies are cute, don't stink, don't piss all over the floor or chew your shoes.
Lord, can you even imagine waiting 8 weeks to take them outside!!!

stressheaderic · 23/04/2010 16:39

First jabs - 8 weeks. Can take em out before...after all, how do you think they get home from the hospital??!

I find babies much easier than puppies, for the record.

Bumbleconfusus · 23/04/2010 18:17

DD came on her first dog walk when she was 7 days old... but was over 2 weeks early so technically under 39 weeks.... she was fine, just had to avoid the dogs dirty paws...

izzybiz · 23/04/2010 18:19

My babies were nearly as hairy as puppies!

CurlyCasper · 23/04/2010 20:20

Yu can take puppies out before jabs if you keep them in your arms and don't leave them to pick up all sorts from being on the ground in poo and pee strewn public places. In this respect, I guess they are the same

CurlyCasper · 23/04/2010 20:21

You, of course

Scrudd · 23/04/2010 20:24

I think you're advised not to take them swimming until they've had their first jabs, but it's been a long time since I had a baby so the guidelines may have changed since then.

kirstyleicester · 24/04/2010 17:47

I had to click on this post as my daughter (5), when asked do you think mummy is having a girl or a boy, always replies, SHE IS HAVING A PUPPY!! with a look on her face which just says 'for god sake how the hell should i know'. makes me laugh every time!! sorry-absolutely nothing to do with post!

BertieBotts · 24/04/2010 17:51

Nope the swimming guidelines have changed now too, there is nothing you can't do if they are unvaccinated

mitfordsisters · 24/04/2010 18:03

You should avoid them having contact with people who are obviously ill!

violethill · 25/04/2010 11:39

No, they have to remain in hospital for years until they've had all their jabs.

I would recommend a home birth for that very reason. Saves on hospital beds if you're keeping your baby in quarantine at home

tablefor3 · 26/04/2010 11:34

actually my baby did uesd to chew my shoes...

Sorry OP - I think this thread has gone off aat a tangent!

MumNWLondon · 26/04/2010 20:20

!!!!

Of course you can take them out - mine when out for lunch today - he's 9 days old.

Avoid ill people or swimming pools... Will take him to vote never occured to me to do proxy because of newborn.
