Is it feasible for me to live in London but give birth in Paris?

I'm getting increasingly paranoid about the cleanliness, lack of staff etc etc in hospitals and would love to be able to go back to Paris to give birth. But I have no idea about the faesibility of this given that it's no. 1. It's due on Jan 8th - has anyone got any idea how long before I'd need to be in Paris and then how long after the birth I'd end up being there before coming back (assuming everything goes ok).
Now this is where I really sound clueless on this whole childbirth business - I take it it won't be faesible to jump on the eurostar when I go into labour and I take it I can't at the end of the hospital stay leave hospital and take dd/ds straight back to London in the car? I'm trying to work out how long I'd end up having to stay with the in-laws (a filthy hospital may be more bearable) or renting somewhere to stay.
Any views/experience would be much appreciated.

Just wanted to say that I had my son at the Portland and it was terrific, and I know quite a few other mums who've had their babies there and all of them have had good experiences too. This includes a French mom who had two kids there after having had her first in Paris. I know they got a lot of bad press re one case where a woman died just after giving birth there, and it was clearly due to inadequate care, but I think in general they do a great job and I suspect have a far better track record than the NHS hospitals in many areas.

That said, I have heard good things about the private wards at Queen Charlotte's as well. Good luck with your decision. For what it's worth I'm also considering traveling to another city to have my next babe (due in Nov.) - in fact, I'd be traveling back to London to go to the Portland since I'm not sure I'm up for the local NHS hospital where I live now...
