Unstable lie?

Hi, just wondering what peoples' experiences have been when they've had an unstable lie late in pregnancy? In the last few weeks, my baby has shifted at each weekly check from head down to transverse to head down to oblique to head down and now back to transverse at 37 weeks. I'm due a scan and consultant's appointment next week to make a final decision (they'll plan a c-section if it's still transverse). However, my big worry now is that it will obediently go head down for the scan, I'll be packed off for a normal birth, and baby will then flip back to transverse again before birth. What have other peoples' consultants said when faced with an unstable lie? Any advice? Cheers!

Hi ealey

I didn't want your post to go unanswered. Have you had a look at these threads?

This happened to me. Baby went head down on the morning of my planned section after bobbing about for weeks. They sent me home to await a natural delivery. I ended up with a section anyway after induction, so with the benefit of I hindsight I would have insisted on going ahead with the planned cs. (I did have a choice..)

Thanks for your replies, and for the links to the other threads. Seems like a real mixed bag of outcomes! That's what I'm worried about happening Portofino, I guess I might just have to be stroppy if I find myself in that position. Just wish it would settle down one way or the other!

I had a planned section for other reasons, but my baby was transverse/oblique/every position other than head down from 32 weeks onwards. Baby moved constantly. Morning of c/s, scan showed baby transverse. As they were trying to site the epidural, she moved again (most uncomfortable) into head down and ENGAGED! Consultant doing the op thought it was most amusing. I did not .

Tbh, can't really give advice on this because I think each baby, each pregnancy is different. What happens for some, doesn't automatically happen for others. Do as you're doing, get all the info you can and try to work out what you would prefer to do when the time comes.

Good luck.
