Still waiting

I'm 39 weeks and still waiting.

It's head down I know it is been like that over a month, I've had back ache for a few weeks now, when the baby moves it hurts I think theres no room down there now I get sharp pains like it's pulling on nerves, I get period type pains sometimes and can't sleep.

my fiance is getting pestered at work about when he is going to take his time off and I'm fed up with waiting.

Never had a baby, no idea what I'm looking out for nothing really explains it, I'm just thinking I will know and by the time I realise I'll still have plenty of get my man out of work and get to hospital.

I wish I'd opted for a home birth or C-Section now it would have made things easier.

you could have another 3 weeks, i;m afraid

you cannot make a baby come quiker than they want and your DFs work should not be pressuring him

you should have plenty of time, hours in fact, to get your DF out of work in time.. most first laburs are at least 12 hours +

you are looking for long strong contractions, at least 60 seconds each every 3 -4 minutes to indicate labour is established... if you have a bath they don;t die off, and get stronger if you move around, you can;t talk through them and need to concentrate on them

your waters might break and you might have a bloody show

regualr pains that get stronger, longer and closer together are a good sign of labour

I keep looking for show every time I go to the loo.

I'm just getting fed up with the discomfort and his crappy boss moaning (damn women has kids she is totally selfish).

Calm down and try to relax not even at EDD, first babies more likely to be late...when I opened this thread thought you were going to be saying am 40+10 or something.

As its your first baby will be PLENTY of time to get your partner home, it will start gradually. And even if you get a show still could be days before the baby comes.

I just had DC3 at the weekend - you'd think I'd know what i was looking for. I'd also had BH for weeks and week. It started on Friday at around 6pm, but wasn't sure it was it - thought might still be BH - although would have called DH had it been earlier (he was on way home by then anyway (and also because even if BH wouldn't have beeen able to manage kids on my own much longer).

We put the kids to bed at 8pm, they had no idea. Didn't leave the house to go until hospital until 4am - 10 hours later.

re: boss, well he should just say that he has no control over your uterus, and will let them know as soon as it happens.

her whinging is not going to make the baby come quicker ! most babies come around 41 weeks.

you need to relax and enjoy these last few days or weeks before the baby arrives

rubyslippers · 20/04/2010 13:32

enjoy the waiting!

Seriously, as lulu says you could have up to 3 weeks to go

lay on the sofa, read books, sleep, nest, sleep, go shopping, sleep - you won't have much time to do these things after the baby comes

ziggyf · 20/04/2010 13:43

Lol, you remind me of me last time round! Seriously, there's nothing you can do but wait I'm afraid. You should have plenty of time to get DF from work and head to the hospital when things do kick off.

I'm not sure I understand why having a home birth or C-section booked would change things? If you're anything like me, you'd still be analysing every twinge!

Fingers crossed it won't be too much longer for you x

smilehomebirth · 20/04/2010 16:42

It's never too late to opt for homebirth - ring up and ask now!

Ryoko · 21/04/2010 13:48

Just because if it was a home birth getting a cab to the hospital would be one less thing to worry about, and C-section because you know when it's going to be out thats all.

As someone else said the first baby is often late - mine was (4 days late) and the second was even later (6 days late after a sweep). I had DS2 two weeks ago & was waiting & waiting & could not think of anything else for weeks! good luck
