Supervision of Midwifery - What does it mean if this service is called in

My childbirth experience was pretty rubbish and the aftercare was even worse. Won't bore you with physical and mental health problems that I've been left with but as part of my recovery I've confronted the hospital in question. It has accepted that it fell far short of what I had a right to expect and has explained that it has involved the supervisors of midwives in all the issues I had identified in my care. It has stated that the supervisors of midwives will be ensuring that all midwives fully understand the importance of communication and the negative effect some methods have on women and their families. Does this mean they got a rollocking? Any comments?

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience....well done for speaking up about it to the hospital though.

I wouldn't say it sounds like someone got a rollocking.......it sounds like they accept that your care was substandard, are looking in to exactly what went wrong, and are taking steps to ensure the same thing doesn't happen again in the future......presumably through further training etc for the midwives in question.

supervision of midwives.

SOMs are there to protect the service user and support midwives.

Thanks for the supportive messages. And the cool nickname EB. Physical and emotional recovery is very slow but I'm getting there.
