Bath and Weight loss after c-section

Hi does anyone know when you can

  1. have a bath after you have had a c-section?
  1. also i had one on monday and weighed myself today and seem to have lost less weight than the baby weighed! how can that be possible when i must have also lost amniotic fluid and a placenta and i am breastfeeding? i was kind of hoping the weight would 'fall off', am i expecting this too early? I started at 9 stone 12, went up to 12 stone 3 and am now 11 stone 7. Will I ever go back to 9 or 10 stone?
  1. another point entirely - milk came in today and my boobs are like rocks. my baby appears to be finding it harder to latch on - do you think this is why? is it a good idea to express a little before feeding to soften them up? what else can i do to ease the discomfort? how long does this usually last for?

In reverse order:
-Express a little milk off with your hand in a c-shape around the breast. Squeeze the thumb and indez finger towards each other but not the nipple.

  • You have probably got extra fluid in your body - I assume you've been in hospital for a couple of days and the heeat in there has meant you've got fluid possibly. Are you finding it hard to fit shoes on etc?
  • I think it's about a week or so until you can bathe but not entirely sure. You can have showers straight away but don't soak the wound or get it wet if you can help it. Dry with a hair dryer if it's easier - you don't want to leave it damp.

Hi. I'm afraid I don't know about the bath and c-section question. Yes, I was a bit disheartened about how much weight I hadn't lost after my first child was born too! All my various weights were about the same as yours. I found it hard to lose weight while breastfeeding, but once I eventually stopped I did eventually get back to my original weight. I had a winter baby though, so there was great temptation to keep eating lots of comfort food! As for the breastfeeding and expressing, yes! You'll probably need to do that for a few days until your milk supple settles down. It won't stay this way. I also found it helped to use cold compresses when engorged, and warm compresses to help expressing.

  1. I think I had a bath the next day but it might have been the day after that. I had baths before I left hospital definetely.
  1. You are expecting to much. Some people say 9 months on, 9 months off which seems reasonable.
  1. Express a little bit. It will calm down in a day or 2.

Oh - forgot to say that usually, although everyone says that breastfeeding is good for weight loss, you don't usually see the difference straight away Your baby is so young though - try not to worry about what your body looks like; just feed your baby and concentrate on enjoying him and when the time is right, you'll be able to concentrate on you. It takes a while for the post-baby bod to get back to how it was and most people never have exactly the same figure as before pregnancy. Just eat healthy foods and take regular walks once you're up to it (usually after 6 weeks) and you'll soon find your body starts to change.

Congratulations!

On the c section bath - I had one when I came home from the hospital - so 2 days.

Weight loss - had my c section in August PP weight was 9st. Gods knows what I weighed when I was pregnant - I ate well but didn't watch weight. Didn't do any exercise or dieting (except for the exercises they give you at the hospital) and was 9st 6 in November. Biffed out over Christmas (went up to 9st 11 and have eaten sensibly and exercised since mid Feb - now at 8st 12.

There is no point in exercising or dieting now, you will do yourself more harm than good - just eat sensibly which is especially important if you are bfing. And do the exercises the hospital have given you. It will come off when you are ready!
