Induction with tablet under the tongue?

I am just sitting watching 'Portland Babies'.
One of the mothers has just been induced with a tablet under the tongue. I have never heard of this, is it new? I was induced twice using the prostaglandid gel, and found it very uncomfortable. The gel working directly on my cervix gave me a lot of discomfort, sharp knifelike pains which were not like proper contractions. I am assuming that this new method wouldnt have that effect? Mind you, I am also assuming that being The Portland Hospital, this treatment was private, and am wondering if this was available on the NHS?! I would love another baby, but I would not like another induction!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It was probably misoprostol which isn't licenced for induction of labour in the UK iirc

yes, misoprostol, actually contraindicated for induction and is linked to increased risk of maternal and neonatal mortality..

Cripes! Fancy showing that on such a posh tv programme!
