Hi,

As subject says, just in need of a vent as I'm getting really fed up and worried and no one seems to say the right thing when I talk to them, although I'm not sure what the right thing to say is!

Was due with DD2 on Sunday, Had my show at 38+5 and had a sort of green tinge so went in to hospital the following morning as MW was worried it could be a trace of meconium so just wanted to make sure baby was happy. Trace went fine and plenty of movement so MW gave me a sweep and I was just over 1cm dilated.

She explained that after having a baby your cervix is never fully closed, but I was definitely dilating.

Had irregular mild braxton hicks/contractions since.

Then at 39+5 had a night of reduced movement so back in again and got another internal exam, almost 2cm dilated and MW could feel the babies head but couldn't feel much amniotic fluid around baby's head. She could however feel the membranes tight round the babies head.

Been having contractions every 20 minutes since lasting 30-40 seconds but not getting closer or stronger.

Had another sweep yest at 40+2 and MW could still feel baby's head but also her hand up at her head, still no bulging fluids and membranes tight round the head and hand. She said we should just hope it moves! But did say if my waters broke then it was straight to hospital, incase hand comes out first. What a thought

Yesterday my contractions got closer, 15 mins apart lasting 45 seconds, were getting stronger, and at midnight I decided to go to bed, as I thought it would be a long night, feel asleep and was woken every hour with a contraction, not every 15 minutes. Since getting up at 7am they are back to 15 minutes lasting 45 seconds but not very strong again!

No appt now until induction date on 7th April.

I'm just so fed up and tired, and to top it off last night my sister, who is on stand by for DD1, had to stay with us due to the bloody snow and the worry that if my waters broke she wouldn't be able to get to ours!!! (the snow was the last straw not my sister having to stay)

So needless to say I'm fed up, slightly worried about baby's position and lack of fluid and tired due to the pathetic contractions!

Any comments to make me feel better, or tips to get the contractions working would be appreciated!

But just wanted to vent!

Oh lola, what patience you must be trying to find!

You could try stimulating your acupressure points which can intensify contractions. I am 39+1 and have experienced similar to you (but no dilation, grrr) for the last few weeks and my reflexologist suggested stimulating the following points and one or two have intensified contractions for me (but have not promoted regularity unfortunately):

  1. The centre of the sole of either foot (just below the 'knuckles' IYSWIM)
  1. 4 finger widths immediately above the ankle
  1. The soft, sensitive bit between forefinger and thumb - you'll know the right bit as it hurts when pressed
  1. The centre of either palm

I've also just been to see my MW and she suggested trampolining!

Good luck, and keep us posted. And remember that no contraction is wasted so you ARE progressing.

Thanks nocoffee

Ha ha, I have actually been on DD's trampoline, and my space hopper (birthing balls were too small as I'm quite tall).

I'm just about to go a walk around the shop with no pad on in the hope that my waters will break due to sods law!

I'm also concerned about DD as she is only 19 months but is really clingy this week so desperate for her sister to arrive so the "unknown" is known to her and we can start getting settled. And DP has just finished his uni course but his job won't start him until baby comes as they say there is no point in case he has to rush off on his first day. I think they think they are doing him a favour, which is great but now we're worried about the lack of cash coming in!

This poor baby isn't even here but we're heaping all this pressure on her to hurry up!

I'm sure it'll be soon, will try the acupressure and see if it works!

Thanks again!
