Anyone have a prem baby then go onto have a birth at the right time?

Couldn't work out how to phrase the title!. Ds was born at 35 weeks (cs) when my waters spontaniously broke, and I'm worried the next one will also be preterm. Ideally I'd like to have a normal gestation and a VBAC...

Anyone else go on to have normal gestation??

My waters broke at 33 weeks but I managed to hold until 37 weeks before ds was delivered.

I am now almost 38 weeks pregnant with number 2 and no sign of waters going yet.

gorgeousgirl · 26/03/2010 22:45

Thank you. Ds had to be delivered early because of infection risk (strep b). I know others will have another answer, but everyone who went on to have a normal delivery gives me a little more confidence.

Hiya,
I had premature rupture of membranes for my first pregnancy at 34 weeks - am currently 37 weeks (so term!!) with no. 2.
Not that that means I am having a normal birth as that would be too easy - no this time I have a low placenta and breech requiring a CS!
Just proves you can't plan anything!!

I had an ECS at 34+6 due to no water and infection. Due today with number 2, hoping for VBAC and got 10 days before ELCS. Totally different pregancy - think he will stay in for a bit longer

Not me... but my SIL had a 28 weeker - waters broke, labour followed ( baby is now my lovely 10 yr old niece) and a 40+3 HUGE boy (who is now my wonderful 5 yr old nephew.) GBS for her too but she popped the Penicillin all the way through DNeph's pregnancy.

My waters broke at 31 weeks with DD.

When we were considering going for a second child, I spoke to a high-risk obstretrician who said he would manage any future pregnancy throughout and give antibiotics at 9 weeks and 16 weeks and monitor from then on. With this plan, he said outcomes are generally good after a pProm first time round.

In the end, we decided to just stick with one child, so I can't tell you the outcome!

But if you're going to TTC, perhaps you could talk to your doc or a consultant about a similar sort of plan?

Bramshott · 27/03/2010 22:18

Yes - spontaneous labour with DD1 at 33 weeks. DD2 went to 38+2.

diddl · 28/03/2010 10:26

First pre 30 weeks.
second 37 weeks.

Unless they know why the first was early, I think the chances of 2nd being early aren´t any different to any pregnancy iyswim.

Just to add-two very easy labours.

with first, gave birth 1hr after first pain, with second, first pain at 8cm & gave birth 2hrs later (dozed for half an hour of that time as well)

No tears or stitches with either.

Thanks for all of your replies- it's reassuring.

I'm under consultant-led care this time, but doesn't seem any different apart from some appointments in hospitals- but it's early days.

I have GBS, and they took swabs at the birth when my wters broke, but never heard anything, so I assume it wasn't an infection that caused the prem birth.

The biggest fear is SCBU (and all that come with it). They were absolutely fantastic, but I was able to stay with ds most of the time. Can't do that with a toddler and worry about having to 'abandon' either of them to care for the other.

Thanks

My lovely friend had her forst baby at 31 weeks, and was overdue with her second!

bronze · 28/03/2010 11:32

I had dd (dc3) at 27 weeks. I then had ds3 term (10 days early) by vbac

bronze · 28/03/2010 11:33

dd was crash cs

tartyhighheels · 28/03/2010 11:36

My first was at 36 weeks - just happened for no reason and no 2 and 3 just about on time.

legallyblond · 29/03/2010 12:27

My mother had me (her first) at 35 weeks - her waters just broke and we were off! She went on to have my brothers and sister at: (1) term; (2) 40 + 2; and (3) 40 + 14

oenophilia · 29/03/2010 12:46

DS1 born at 31 weeks - never did find out why! DS2 was categorised as a high risk pregnancy. Diagnosed with IUGR and estimated at 4lbs - one week before he was born weighing 6lbs at 37 weeks. DTs were induced at 36 weeks but probably would've gone on a bit longer by choice - although I could hardly get out of a chair!!

tvfriend · 29/03/2010 20:31

DD was born at 36 weeks - no apparent reason and DS was born at 34 and a half weeks which I know is not the answer you wanted, BUT he was in Special care for 2 nights only and that was only to keep an eye on him really. I also had a toddler but the whole thing was much less stressful as I knew that my previously early baby had been fine etc and it wasn't so much of a shock as DD's birth was as I was expecting it to some extent. So just wanted to give reassurance that it's OK! (Natural births both times).

emsyj · 29/03/2010 20:57

Yup, my mum did - my sister was born at 28 weeks after her waters went, then I was on time.

gorgeousgirl · 29/03/2010 22:36

Thank you all. And thank you tvfriend - I know it might happen that way, but it's nice to know SCBU can work out second time as well. x
