i am so excited about being there for my best friend at such an amazing time in her life. i have given birth myself so im not going in completely blind but i want to be the best i can for her.
she has only 9 weeks left. me being the 'list lady' that i am i dont want to forget anything. we are meeting up soon (without my little 1) to chat about birthing plan and who she wants me to call etc. im not letting my planning ways affect her in any way as i know how important it is she does it all her way, but for my part can anyone help me with ideas to be a great birthing partner, other than the obvious ones. thanks

my best friend was there for me at my homebirth 12 days ago.

my DH was there too but at our DS's birth he was pretty much useless so i wanted a little more support this time.

TBH all my friend did was just be there, chat to me between contractions, hold my hand when i needed it and stood back when i didnt, she did say, how well i was doing, although was never patronising - and it seemed so much better coming from a woman who has given birth rather than my DH.

she did always offer to leave the room during any exams, although towards the end i just didnt care . she always made sure i was warm enough and comfortable bringing blankets as needed.

she knew what i wanted and made sure that the MW did too so i didnt have anything to worry about.

and in the final stretch she got a hairband and tied my hair back for me, held my sick bucket , held the gas and air when i couldnt, held my hand and was truly fantastic.

she even put my little girls first clothes on as my DH just froze!

its a great thing you are doing and your friend will be forever grateful - i know i am.x

thank you and a big congratulations to you all on your new arrival!!!!!!
i shouldve added i will be about 18 weeks pregnant myself but lots of other mners in past posts have reasured me that it will be fine as alot of midwives continue working when pregnant.
it really is going to be an amazing day (or few)! my dh was great but not vocal enough so it was great to have my mum there with me too. im not shy of speaking up and asking questions or speaking on my friends behalf when she is exhausted but if there is anything that i can do or take with me that can make her that little bit more comfortable then great
