Natural Induction - Any ideas??

Ok, after my posting last night I called the hospital today, went in and it is confirmed that my waters went on Saturday night. Am now 48 hours on and nothing is happening. Hospital are threatening inducing me which I really don't want as I have the birthing pool set up in my lounge and really want to birth at home.

So, I have 24 hours to get this baby going. The take out curry is on order, sex is obviously off the menu, nipple tweaking (!) was suggested by my MW but does anyone else have any tried or tested ways of getting you in to labour naturally?

nipple tweaking. seriously. there is clinical evidence behind it - though i belive you want to do it for at least thirty minutes!

in my case this worked (after watching all of The Simpsons with Dh tweaking me, i started having twinges, went into labour after repeating the experiment the next morning.)

a good walk at a stiff pace - no need to go far though.

with DD, i put myself in labour just doin the shopping for the curry (carrying a heavy basket all the way round Sainsburys)

good luck

acupuncture... def worth finding someone asap. if you are in London I can recommend someone.

also homeopathy?

I dont have that kind of time unfortunately! This wan't supposed to be happening now as only 37+4 and if I don't get going before 7.30pm tomorrow they'll make me go in for the induction..

Have you got a breast pump? Could have a go on that maybe.

allibaba · 22/03/2010 19:39

Am currently sat here massaging my nipple watching Corrie feeling, pardon the pun, like a right tit. Wish I had a breast pump but didn't think I'd need to get one for a few weeks!

Hi there

I am really new to mumsnet so I'm not sure if just jumping onto a thread is the right thing to do but wanted to say that the nipple stimulation helps to get the oxytocin going which of course is what you want.

But the main reason I was drawn to post is to hopefully give you a bit of a giggle. I call this laughter induction because it is what my husband did (promise it isn't rude ;-)) and my daughter turned up the next day.

tumstomums - telling another Mum to get fondling her boobs without delay is so Mumsnet!

I was 10 days over with my second. I went for a long walk which ended in climbing over the five bar gate at the end of our road. I felt the baby shift as my tummy was just going over the gate. I swear it was that positioning that let the baby move in to the right position to get going. Went into labour just after that and had quite a pleasant labour in the end.

you might find someone to do acupuncture tomorrow morning - i managed to arrange at super short notice when i needed it... but the other two options you can try tomorrow morning (although best to choose one or other)

also homeopathy can google what you need and then get it from a homepathic pharmacy so that can be quick.

clary sage essential oil also supposed to be good - your OH can get from 24 hour pharmacy (worth calling first to check they have it) - either burn it in room, or add to bath or dilute with base oil and massage into skin.

Yes, nipple stimulation is really meant to work. Even though sex is not an option because your waters have gone, an orgasm might help - and even if it doesn't it would cheer you up!

Lots of walking, spicy food, warm shower...

Remember they can't force you to be induced if you don't want to be. If you decide to go down this route, you can ask for a minimal dose and that they withdraw any drugs once your body has started to take over.

ohmeohmy · 23/03/2010 11:17

clary sage oil rubbed into bump supposed to help, also you can google chidlbirth acupressure points and do that yourself (there are points on lower leg and hands)

ohmeohmy · 23/03/2010 11:18

meant to add get as relaxed as possible, stress hormones give your body the message that it is not safe for baby to come now. relax, relax, relax
