Please remind me why I wanted a VBAC...I am starting to wobble.

I am 40 weeks today with DC3. DC1 was an Emergency CS and DC2 was a VBAC. I have been militant about want a VBAC all through my pregnancy...but I seem to be forgetting why now.

I saw the midwife today and this baby is oblique and back to back. I have quite severe SPD, so all the baby turning type postures are too painful for me at the moment. The midwife suggested that they may be able to give me a controlled rupture of the membranes to enable to head to descend slowly to avoid the cord coming down first. I really feel like I am set to fail and don't want another Emergency CS.

I suppose I am after a bit of a confidence boost and a kick up the back side to tell me not to be such a wimp.

You did a VBAC last time!! And tis 'better to have tried' etc etc Best of luck...I don't know what to say about the medical stuff as no expert but if your MW thinks there are good options to try (controlled rupture etc) then she's the expert. Go for it.
(I'm hoping for a VBAC too, am 37wks, nervous too after very stressful EMCS last time).

Thanks for replying Kittycat. I hope your VBAC goes well.

my second cs was really ruddy hard to recover from, and it was planned because I had no confidence about my ability to achieve a vbac (and other complications too). It took me three days to be able to stand up straight, I passed out on the first day I stood up because of the pain. I was in pain for about 4 weeks in all... how's that? convince you yet?

Mung · 18/03/2010 20:58

You're getting there HeadFairy. I recovered much better from the CS than the VBAC, but not being able to drive was awful. It would be worse this time with 2 other children to entertain and living further from the town.

That's what drove me insane too... I really couldn't drive before 5 weeks were up because I could barely walk, plus it co-incided with the snow, so no one could come out to see me either. I was stuck indoors with dd and a hyper livewire 2 year old! I had to run through the full extent of my creative activities. I have to carve another potato print I'll scream!!!

If I had my time again, I'd hire a doula and really go for it with the vbac... I had timing issues, I was showing signs of placental failure so I wouldn't have been able to try for very long, so I needed to get it right, but I just didn't feel I could manage it and thought the el cs would be easier to recover from than an emergency cs... Ha!

That sounds awful Headfairy. The snow was bad enough without being house bound due to recovering from a CS and having a newborn to deal with.

So, you'll go for it next time then

hahahahaha... next time? There ain't going to be a next time!

I see the consultant tomorrow...I'm very tempted to book the c-section for this week again. I really cannot make up my mind at the moment...

Good luck tomorrow... I did book my cs at 37 weeks because I was told that if I was on the list I could always have the option to go for the cs, but if I went in to labour and wanted to try for the vbac I could... booking myself in for the section just left the door open a little bit. As it turned out, scans just before the cs, and the fact that at 40+12 the mw couldn't reach my cervix for a sweep and I was showing no signs whatsoever of going in to labour meant that having that cs booked already was perfect!

Mung · 23/03/2010 15:45

Well...it soudns like I am a bit like you. The registrar couldn't reachmy cervix today and couldn't give me a sweep. I'm booked for Friday for them to have another go and maybe discuss the option of one dose of Prostin gel or CS for the following week.

That's a shame (if you haven't wavered too much wrt the Vbac that is... if you're bricking it, it might be good news for you )

I remember posting at the time what on earth did they do before cs was a really safe option to people who went really over due and showed no signs of going in to labour... I was 12 days over and no signs of any movement! Would dd have stayed there indefinitely? Gawd I hope not!

Good luck for Friday... I'm afraid I wimped out at the prospect of drips etc and they don't use the prostin pessaries for vbacs at our hospital.

Mung · 26/03/2010 15:24

I went for the VBAC and ended up with an EMCS...but as you said HeadFairy its better to have tried and all that...
I'm a bit gutted that I got so far and it all ended that way, but I understand why. It also takes away the stress and decision making next time

Sorry Mung, only just come back to this thread, sorry to hear you didn't get your VBAC. I hope the recovery from the cs is speedy. Congratulations and what did you have!?
