I was in agony last night, had to crawl up the stairs, eventually managed to get into bed but was in a lot of pain each time I had to move.

When I woke I still could barely walk, but had to get to work as today was supposed to be my last day at work - I'm 36 weeks.

Made arrangements to be driven into work by MIL and my Dad come and get me later.

Well whilst brushing my teeth the pain suddenly subsided and a gush of liquid came rushing out from between my legs! That's it I thought my waters have broken.

Rang midwife told to go straight in to hospital as I'm 4 weeks early. Rang work sorry not going to make my last day afterall! Got parents all excited, text every friend on my mobile!

Had lots of observations done at hospital, midwife kept suggesting I may have wet myself, but no I had only just gone to the loo before this happened.

Had an internal and my cervix was fully shut and no sign of fluid leakage.

Final assumption the pain I had last night was the baby squashing part of my bladder so much that it made a pocket of wee, which when the baby moved this morning the wee came gushing out without any prior warning.

So been discharged and told to just keep an eye of everything, so basically I WET MYSELF!!

What a wally do I feel now having to text everyone back to say that!

Has anyone else thought todays the day to be told no you just wet yourself!!??

Good thing is we weren't fully prepared for the arrival and now have chance to tidy the house, pack the hospital bag etc!!

I have never been told that...however, i was in a lot of discomfort with my stomache and back, very sore mild contractions, phoned hospital and they told me its sounds like im in early labour, i got a little excited, to only find out it was actuallly a kidney infection causing me the pain, i wasnt in bloody early labour, that was about a week ago, im now 40weeks plus 6days and i wish to god i was back then because id have a baby by now.
sorry to hear about your embarresing experience, im sure your family understood though.

I have been told a few times by by midwives that I am measuring 3 weeks early so wouldn't have been suprised if today was the day, but as I just said to my husband you watch me go over due now!!

Good luck - lets hope you have the baby soon!!

My mum won't let me live this one down - she's a specialist continence adviser!!!

I was in hospital being scanned when 7wks pg. Was referred from A&E due to lots of pain and clots (baby was okay!) and was up on the antenatal ward. A chap brought his wife in, absolutely panicking the pair of them. She was crying and he was bellowing. I thought she must be about to push from the noise. He was shouting her waters have gone, what do we do, what do we do? They seemed confused when asked about contractions. They were ushered off. An hour or so later they appeared again, shame-faced and much quieter with him hissing into his mobile 'she's just wet herself, no need to panic'.

I felt very sorry for her. I'm sure it happens a lot!

oo even more reason for you to beleave it was your waters breaking then! i never thought id reach 40weeks, iv suffered with high blood pressure i thought they were going to induce me at 37weeks but noooo, it settled now at the wrong blooming time lol. its always the way though unfortunatly!
This will be something you look back at and laugh with your mum in a couple months after the embarressment of it all has finally dissapeard lol.

Oh, poor you and what an anti climax.

I had a similar experience except I hadn't wet myself. Due date arrives and I'm ironing (not a natural ironer but nesting) and it is mid afternoon at the end of June. Suddenly I feel extremely damp between my legs and think Gosh! Waters have Broken! Called DH to come home from work ( he was so flustered he fell down the stairs on his way out) and we went to hospital. Fully examined etc to be told that my waters hadn't broken. I was just a bit sweaty.

That was rather embarrassing, let me tell you.

ChocolateCakeWillMakeMeRich · 18/03/2010 17:29

oh and good luck!

mum2phebs the night dd2 was born I got up to go to toilet got straight of toilet and wet myself, was having contractions so thought waters had broke, couldn't understand how I could wet myself after just peeing!!

tbh it was a good thing as I just got dressed into my clothes or I would have had to go to hospital in my horrible but comfy jammies

Anyway when I got into hospital I was leaning against examination bed having another contraction and felt warm trickle said oh no I've wet myself again
then said actually no this time it might be my waters, the mw was trying not to laugh as I decided which one it was
Pity I hadn't known about the sniff test in One born every minute

Oh my goodness, you poor love... honestly, this is my nightmare - tiddling myself is about the worst thing that could ever happen to me and it has never happened but now on baby four so i may have spoken too soon.....

in my first labour after a check up and the doc telling me nothing was happening i went to the loo and was sick and thought i had wet myself - i was wailing about it because i was so embarassed but it was my waters going (doesn't change the fact i was soaking wet, wailing and covered in sick!)
