I had a natural birth first time.. only just! Second time induced and then an emergency section after baby got stuck again!...
DP not keen on having another baby, nor am I just yet but the one thing that would persuade me was if I could have an elective c-section, only I dont know what the criteria for that is or if it is different for each hospital??
Also with an elective c-section do you always have it on your due date or do they let you go over (ten days + with last two pregnancies.. )

dillydally ime it depends on your hospital policy.
I had section after failed induction first time. Second baby, different area, different hospital, consultant was keen to try for VBAC so didn't discuss elective section, idea was to wait and see what happened. In the end, I got pre-eclampsia and had elective section at 38 weeks.
Third time, different hospital again, consultant spoke about elective section from the start. Saw him at 35 weeks and he told midwives to book me for elective section at 39 weeks. Midwife rang labour ward to book, given a choice of dates and ended up with 38 plus 5 as other dates were on due date or later!
So, long and short of it is... it seems to vary according to each consultant/hospital/area but if it is elective section, it is usually done a week or so early but the actual date will depend on when they have an available "appointment"!
Good luck!

Thanks humpty, I thought as much about it all being different everywhere! It might be best to ring my old midwife if DP and I ever come to a mutual decision on this - or if I persuade him to my way of thinking and see what its like round here, she was nice and I was lucky to have her by pure chance for both of my pregnancies for doctors appts. Can you tell me know what a VBAC is please? I tried a search on it on here but ??

Was thinking you could ring midwife and ask if that would help!
VBAC is vaginal birth after caesarean (sp?). Some hospitals seem more keen on it than others. Well I guess they are all keen on it, but some places, like where I had ds, elective section was never offered from the beginning although of course it was an option, but where I am having this baby, they were happy to discuss elective section at the first consultant appointment.
Have no idea why that is.. very !

I only know they won't do an elective at my hospital until 39 weeks, so they can be confident that the baby is sufficiently developed - I think there's evidence that babies born prior to this have more breathing difficulties and other health problems.

The hospital I am at has a very low rate of caesarians of which they are proud and would only offer if medically indicated.

I had an emergency rotational forceps delivery in theatre 16 months ago when DD was stuck sideways on and got into distress.

Bladder issues ongoing and a long, painful recovery with months and months of physio.

This time they have agreed an elective. I read up a lot between pregnancies and know the pros and cons. The consultant said I could have a vaginal birth but was also happy to do an elective given the traumatic experience and ongoing issues.

I got a letter stating they would be happy to do a section next time before I even got pregnant again - after a meeting to review the birth and get some questions answered. I cried a lot on the consultant so I think he knew how deeply it was haunting me!

Electives here are done in the 39th week - as someone else said to maximise the health of the wee one. I was 12 days over with DD so am hoping this one doesn't come before the section! If I do kick off early I would go in and have an emcs asap.

In my area if you are all ok then they give you the choice of VBAC or elCS.

I had my elCS for my son at 38 + 2. (first birth)

Another frightful natural birth here with first child; hideous experience, lengthy so-called recovery etc. Consultant said I stood about a ten percent chance of natural birth second time round, and booked me in for elcs on request. It was done at 38 +2, and was great.
