VBAC - worth bothering?

I am hoping to have baby 2 soon, but can't help but wonder if I shouldn't have an elective c-section.
Had a very long birth last time - waters broke - failure to progress - induction- failure to progress - c-section 3 days later. Such a waste of time and energy. And I was beyond caring by then.
So (hand on heart) an elective c-section at 8am after a good night sleep just sounds appealing.
Or am I chickening out? Anyone had a VBAC and wished she had an elective or is it all plain sailing once you are brave enough to go for it?

My 36 week scan said 8lb. He was born two weeks later at 8lb 2oz. They don't know!

I only got to 5cm after 2 days too - infact, once I got to hospital and they broke my waters (after being at home for 2 days) I went back to 4cm dilated!!! How gutted was I?

DS was not big in my case though, he was back to back and facing the wrong way though apparently which was the problem. MW assures me that this situation means that there is no reason for it to 'go wrong' next time, but I can't help feeling that MW are so pro VBAC that they would say anything!

Same here tallbirduk...my DD went back to back and then was transverse when I had the section so I'm hoping this was the reason for the section.

It's good hearing everyone's experiences.

My son was 10lb 90z when he was born - after the consultant saying he was "probably just a 6lb er".
Needless to say I was sliced and diced.

I would love to consider a VBAC. My son is super active and will be just 2 when this one comes so I want to be as active as possible afterwards, but am terrified it will be another huge baby. I am a tiny lady!! Goodness knows how I produced such a monster, honestly!

So it sadly looks like I will chicken out and ask for an ELCS. I would love a VBAC so much, but I don't know where I want to be ripped the most! I like my fanjo the way it is....and my tummy is already ruined.....

I had a section with DS1 after 5 days of failed induction.

DS2 I was determined for a vbac. It was going well until the last minute when i was rushed for a very traumatic emergency section. However, I would never have changed going for a vbac and my labour.

Oh aqnd DS2 was going to be smaller than 8lb 2 DS1 apparently. Until he was hauled out at 10lb 2. Nice!

This might be a stupid question but are you likely to end up with another EMCS if your baby is a big one i.e 10lb ish as opposed to a 7lber?I thought it was more to do with baby's positioning?

smokinaces · 19/03/2010 07:44

Mumcah I think its a little to do with both - especially if you are going for a vbac with a large baby as your body hasnt birthed before IYSWIM?

Mine wasnt so much DS2's weight but his head circumference - his plates were being pushed too far going through the cervix and dropping his heart rate to 30 (his head was literally being squeezed to death) so he had to be pushed back up. He was heavier than DS1 (8lb 2 vs 10lb 2 but 2-3w difference in gestation) but his head circumference was on the 98th centile. DS1 was on the 25th centile, so could have fitted better
