WOULD I BE ABLE TO ASK FOR A SECTION?

I am only 5 weeks pregnant so know its early days but wondered if i could have an elective c section this time. With first baby my waters broke and after 40 hrs with no contractions as such, i was induced with tablet. That didnt work so 15 hrs after that i had drip. Head started swelling and after 11hrs and only 3 cm dilated if that, i had a section. My daughter was a hefty 9 half pounds but i dont think size was problem.I vaguely remember being told by consultant next day that i had an incompetent cervix. whatever that is!Has anyone else had similar experience?

yes, you can always ask for a ceasarean whatever your reasons, i don't know all your details, but it sounds like you will likely be offered one anyway if you have a incompetent cervix.
if you are very much decided on a section, they can not refuse you as you have had one before.

I had an elective with my DS although that was for a medical reason, i will choose to have another next time even if there is no medical need.
if you have trouble with this, get a second opinion from another consultant x

Thanks for message. I have no idea what an incompetent cervix is really but it must be something that stopped my cervix dilateing properly. will ask midwife when i see her.

Doubt it is 'cervical incompetence' as this is a fairly specific medical term
see here
Means your cervix is not 'strong' enough to hold the pregnancy in your uterus until full term so prone to premature second trimester deliveries
Your cervix didn't dilate, I suppose you had a cervical malfunction of sorts, but this is not really a medical term
'Failure to progress' would cover it

Hi wtpp. Very similar happened to me with dd. Has show at 41wks, then a sweep the day after & went in as meconium in dripping forewaters. No contractions so given pessary, 12 more hours then put on drip & they broke my hindwaters - got to 2 cm. On drip all night, max dose and after 12 hours was at 1.5cm and dd's hb was not good so ended up with emcs.
With ds, I was really torn between trying for a vbac or booking an elective. They did say there was no reason the same thing would happen again so I could go for vbac but we could decide later. At 37 weeks I didn't feel ready to decide and they didn't push me. At 39 weeks they examined me (in second pg even if you had a cs, you are usually slightly dilated by this point). I was not dilated at all and they said my cervix was 'unfavourable' They also measured baby and advised was minimum 9lb. They gave me odds of approx 30% for a vbac but advised forceps/ventouse would be likely, or I could opt for a planned cs. If I went over 12 days they would cs anyway (ha, ha - would have been Christmas Eve!)
I chose planned cs at 39+5 - ds was 9lb 8oz. Still have a little part of me wondering if I could have done it naturally and a little sad I will never know.
You will be allowed to have one as you had an emcs before, but have a good think and read a few threads - you have ages to decide.
Congratulations
