Childbirth

early induction due to large baby

I am 37 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child, and have been advised by the consultant after a scan that I am induced at 38 weeks. My 2nd baby weighed 9lb13 and this one is looking similar, if not larger. Anyone had a similar experience, or general induction stories? I would rather not have pain relief, and am worried that induction might make this more likely.

I had a scan at about 34 weeks and they told me he was about 9lb then and was born just short of ten. I think that was pretty accurate

pinkmama - mine was more or less same as yours as mine was back to back and facing the wrong way (plus she was too high up), docs tried to turn her around but couldnt and baba started to get distress so had to have a emergency c-section. mine was 9lb 1oz. if she was facing the correct way, i would've of gave birth naturally

i was induced due to pre eclampsia and being a week over. i had to have 6 dollops of lovely gel, ( not to bad once you get used to the feeling of having your tonsills tickled from the inside!) the contractions then started quite nice and slowly. 24 hours later i was 3cm and had no pain relief, just lots of pacing up and down the halls and deep breathing. they then decided to break my waters and i went from a lovely calm person to a pyscho!! the pain was amazing, contractions so hard and so fast i couldnt get my breath inbetween. was in a pool at this point and then begged ( literally) for an epidural. ( which took an hour and a half to get in as they found problems finding a space in my back, i looked like a pin cushion!!) once in though it was lovely, sat there eating cake and drinking tea watching telly. 32 hours from when my contractions started i started to push. 2hours 45mins later they used a vontouse, which came off twice. my dd then got stuck and they had to break her shoulder to get her out. she was only 8lb 2oz. a healthy weight but not huge. ok long waffle i know, my advice is if they induce you make sure you are aware how quickly you can have some pain relief, but the whole ordeal is worth it. i promise, good luck x
