Hi

I think that when I move I will have to go to Lister? Can anyone tell me their experiences please? Anything I should know?

Do they do cloth or 'sposies or do I provide my own? Do they have lactation consultants that you can access? Do they do mobile epi's and do they have water births etc?

What are the policies regarding siblings?

Good or bad, I dont mind, would love to hear your stories!!

the Lister isn't a maternity hospital.

Hi do you mean Lister hospital in Stevenage?? If so I had DS3 there, induced went onto synto, continuously monitored due to problems in pregnancy, so am not able to answer all your questions. However siblings are allowed to visit postnatal ward but as far as I know current restrictions due to swine flu are that only birth partner is able to visit ante/peri/postnatally.

My experience was fine, even though my labour/delivery was medicalised. Staff were on the whole friendly and supportive. The unit is currently undergoing a multimillion £ refit to include several birthing pools, due for completion end of the year I believe.

Hth good luck!

Forgot say you have to take your own nappies and your own feeding gear milk etc if intending to ff. Don t know about epi only had g&a, would have thought there will be access to lactation consultants as the hospital was going for babyfriendly status.

I only stayed for the night, wanted to go home from del suite but still had iv going so went to ward. Night was ok but mw s were v busy I left early next morning so had little contact/support postnatally hence unsure of services available.

Antenatally I had several admissions and found the care to be really good, nuchal scans are standard at 11-13 wks with anomaly scan at 19-21 wks

Any other questions just ask.

Sorry - just assumed you were talking about the Lister in London!

My experience of the Lister was very good. Care standards very high. I feel that its got a very medicalised culture and they love their interventions. Obviously can be very good if you need them but I do get the feeling they have rigid expectations and try to push you into their timetables (disclaimer I've only given birth at the Lister so this may be exactly the same as everywhere else but just my impression).

I found breastfeeding support to be good but maybe because my community midwifes other role was as a lactation consultant. They run a pre birth breastfeeding workshop and there is a very good network of drop in groups in the North Herts culture which was very helpful particularly after the birth of DD2.

Good luck!

I had ds2 at the Lister, as I had a very bad experience at the QE2 with DD1. I delivered at 33 weeks, but found the staff great and very understanding especially when I was in tears. Ds2 was taken to SCBU across the hall, where I provided nappies, and expressed milk for him, the nurses were very encouraging of BF and gave me loads of help, but the doctors were pushing for me to give formula.

There is a BF consoller (sp?) who is based in stevenage who I think also helps at the hospital
