If you had an uncomplicated VB despite having such a big baby I doubt that would be reason alone for a CS next time unless there was other risk factor present eg 3rd/4th degree tear. babies don't tend to get smaller but subsequent births do tend to get easier.

In this pregnancy they will probably want to make sure you don't have GD...

How did you deliver your daughter? eg upright / lying down / in waters?? ws her birth controlled or quick? there are lots of things you can do to reduce/prevent tearing.

I too would be interested to hear what position you were in,and how the delivery went,ie did you push when crowning etc.I had a 10lb 11oz baby with no stitches.Did perineal massage, panted when crowning etc. Were you overdue?

Just wanted to add that it's not just big babies that lead to stitches.......my DD1 was 7lb 12 and DD2 9lb 6 and I had a 2nd degree tear with both of them. I would have thought that the majority of 1st babies cause tears (I have 10 close mummy friends from my NCT group and we all had stitches, even the mums whose babies were 6 or 7 lbs)

It is true that babies tend to get bigger with each pregnancy, but it's not always the case. All I can say is that I found my labour and birth much easier and less painful with the bigger baby!

If you're really worried though it's worth asking to be referred to a consultant to talk about a section (although I guess you do realise that you would have even more stitches and a longer recovery time than with a vaginal birth.......)

Hi there, congrats on your pregnancy. My DS1 was 10lb and I had a lot of stitches (ouch) so I know where you are coming from.

However, 2 weeks ago I had a c-section for DS2 and I have to say the recovery is just as painful. It's nice to be able to sit down but I can't pick up DS1 and give him a big cuddle which is heart breaking. It was a more relaxed birth experience but it's no easier from a recovery point of view.

Everyone has different experiences I know but thought it was worth sharing with you as it's major surgery.

All the best xxx

I had more stitches with my first who was 1.5 pounds smaller than with my second.

What do you mean by 'lots of stitches' - think that would determine answer really. Difference between tearing or episiotomy and 3rd / 4th degree tear.

However if you really are traumatised I think it is something the midwife would talk to you about.
