I have had problem with my bladder sensations since the birth of ds 5 years ago. Its a long story but basicly the midwifes damaged the nerve endings to my bladder my putting the cathiter in wrong and then over stretching my bladder with fluids.
I dont suffer any incontinence i just dont know when i need to pass urine.

I had my dd in january and since then th hospital have decided were going to look into it, (5 years to late if you ask me.

Any way had a urinary flow test done and then they did a residule cathiter.now they want me to self catheterise morning and night to ensure that my blader is emptyied properly twice a day.

I realy dont want this, the nurse specialist is of for two weeks my health visitor is of sick and cant get into see gp till tuesday. Ive been worrying about this since tuesday and its getting me down now.
My question is can they force me to do this?
I have never had bladder or kidney infections so cant see why, also the nerveendings are already damaged surely putting a catheter in twice a day will make worse in the long run. Im only 35 and dont need this.
sorry to be long winded but its getting me down now and i am trying to avoid to much stress and worry as i had pnd with ds.

hi So sorry to hear of your bladder problems after being incompetently catheterised. I too have suffered continual problems since this happened to me following an operation to remove fibroids to increase my chances of conceiving-haha!
I know how debilitating bladder issues are thought some seem to have played them down on other threads!
I cannot believe the medical profession - sending you away to perform a procedure that has not been explained thoroughly and that you are not feeling competent to do!!
Have you been seen by a urologist, ie someonefully qualified not some junior Dr. If not then I would DEMAND that you see one as I got nowhere until I saw one who was highly recomended. He sent me for kidney/bladder x rays and scans (full bladder then empty bladder then rescan) then a cystoscopy (camera into bladder to check bladder health). There are also experts i the filed of urology and gynae called urigynecologists and it may be worth you trying for a referral to one of these given how you sustained these injuries.
I believe that many women with MS have to self catheterise but wonder if once you start you will always have to? Please keep us posted and good luck!

Thankyou gailforce1 all i have seen upto know is a nurse specialist, she was going to take the reports to the consultant. I am not going to do it , i could understand if i kept getting infections then yes i would considour it. Its all there fault in the first place, all they have said to me is that if the sensation when you need to go was going to come back it would have done by now. (realy helpfull eh) going to speak to gp on tuesday. Thankyou for the advice i will keep you posted.
