Hi,

I had a uterine rupture in October following a vbac attempt to deliver my second daughter. Apart from the obvious trauma my girl and I are totally fine and recovered quickly. I don't want to bore anyone with the details but wondered if anyone else had the same or similar experience. I haven't managed to find anyone so far and would really appreciate someone to chat to who has "been there., done that" so to speak.

I haven't been there myself but my cousin had a uterine rupture following an induced birth at 38 weeks. She was in Intensive Care for a week after and had more surgery than she would have with a caesarean. She was told that if she had any more children (and she hasn't) she would have to have a c section at 34 weeks. Both she and the child were fine.

Was your birth induced?

No. I was 4 days over, had 2 sweeps and went into labour naturally. Failed to progress though so gave me Synto. It was that or emergency section so I figured I was taking better option (my first section was hell - epidural didn't work well so I felt way more, haemorraged got general anaesthetic, blood transfusion and week in special care baby unit!) How wrong I was.

How does your cousin feel about it all now? Does she want to try for another baby? I've been told by consultant I could but risky.

Thanks so much for replying. I'm struggling to find anyone who's had a rupture!

My scar partially ruptured when I had ds2 back in may, if my midwife hadn't been so on the ball it would have gone completely. I went for a debrief yesterday so things are a little clearer now thankfully, it wasn't the best of experiences! I haven't discussed having any more dcs yet apart from just being told it would be risky, not sure I will.

My cousin didn't have any more and it's a bit late now, she's nearly 50! I don't think she's had any major health problems since though. As she has two children and is the major breadwinner and she and her dh are building their own house I don't see how she could have fitted another one in anyway.

The synto clearly sent your uterus into overdrive, but i can quite see how you chose to risk that rather than another section, given your history. It was a hard choice and could have gone wrong whichever way you went.

Hi
I had a complete uterine rupture on 9 April when attempting a VBAC. That was only two weeks ago and I don't really know how I'm going to feel about it. It was terrifying and I had no pain relief other than gas and air and when they put me under general to do the section.
The hospital and doctors and midwives were wonderful though, they couldn't have handled my situation better - let me attempt the VBAC but with a very careful eye on what was going on. My baby too was in my abdominal cavity when they opened me up and she was in NICU for two and a half days. It was a shock to realise how lucky we were that she was alive. The doctors all came to see me afterwards and I was able to ask lots and lots of questions and they were very kind to me and explained exactly what happened. I cannot rate them highly enough.
I know I do feel weird about it all as I somehow feel very attached to my time in hospital afterwards. I am also struggling with the idea that I will not have more children - like you we had only wanted two and that is what we have, but it is different to have the final decision taken away from you.
Anyway, I just thought it might help you to know there is someone else in your situation right now! I am just going to see how things pan out and ask for help if I need it.
Good luck!
