Thought ELCS would take stress away, but seems to be making it worse!

Hi

I'm booked for an ELCS with DC2 on 23rd March following a traumtic labour/EMCS with DD1.

Trouble is, my date for the section is at 39+3 - around the same time my waters broke with DD1. I tried asking for it to be a few days earlier, but was told that wasn't possible and not to worry, because I could still get my section even if I go into labour before the planned date.

Thing is, I had hoped that having a planned section would allow me to relax a bit, but instead I find myself stressing that I might still end up in a sort of emergency situation and I'm convinced this LO is going to come early!

As you might have guessed, I'm a born worrier.

Does anyone have any positive stories about ging into labour before a planned section date and still getting a fairly stress free cs?

I went into labour the night before my elcs and decided to stay at home until the morning(unlike you i was secretly hoping for a vbac but that's another story).Anyhow by 5am contractions were on top of each other. Left for hosp. at 9am. On route to hosp. waters broke almost drowning dp and I in car. Arrived at hosp. 9:30 surgeon was performing another section so was told to wait for her to finish before I was to have my op. Had op. around 10:30. All went fine. There is usually plenty of time from beginning of labour to the end. So I really wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks Harlok!

That is helpful.

I know you're right. It's unlikely that labour will begin and then be over in a couple of hours! I'll make sure I call hosp as soon as I have positive signs of labour to give myself enough time for them to fit me in.

In exactly the same position re: worrying about going into labour before the elcs. Not helped by the most recent consultant being a bit obtuse about what exactly would happen in this scenario, but thanks harlok, it's good to know it worked out OK for you.

I've been told by a couple of mws that I will still get my section, even if early, but I don't know how much of a priority it would be! Having said that, my main mw said that even when planned, you can quite often be pushed to the back of the queue and wait hours if there are emergencies to deal with, so no guarantees there either!

My LO is currently breech and part of me is hoping that she stays that way so at least I will be more of a priority for a section if labour does begin early! What a way to carry on!

Good luck, FatSeal, I guess what will be will be!
