Waterbirth at Wishaw General?

HI everyone, wondered if anyone has had a waterbirth here? How did you find it?
I hope to be able to try this out if I can, I know it's on a first come first served basis though.

Also if you are induced, when are you not allowed to waterbirth?? I mean, if you are induced with pessary etc then if this works can you still transfer to the pool if it's available. I understand if put on drip then you can't.
thanks x

Hi, I was told they had 2 pools and there is usually at least one free.
This is going to be my 4th delivery but only my 1st in WGH, so I am going to watch your thread with interest .

Bear in mind, it is not so much about what you are "allowed", it will depend on hospital policy and whether you are prepared to accept certain risks they do not want to take. Also there is a difference between labouring in the pool and delivering in it. If I get into the pool, it may be a challenge to get me back out again, IYKWIM ...

Intermittent monitoring would be fine if you had only prostin pessary for induction and not syntocinon drip to augment labour.
I am not sure whether Wishaw has wireless monitoring equipment - I suspect not.

Anyway, I am going to see my consultant next week and will add this to my list of questions to ask .

Hi Pacific, thanks for your info. This is my first and I am totally clueless of what to expect or what might be a good idea or not, etc.
I'm 41 weeks at the moment......arrrgh (read this is excited scaredness), and I have had SPD so I thought the water would assist in taking my weight and help me become comfortable. I am seeing a consultant I think this week to discuss getting a sweep but last week as the baby wasn't engaged the MW couldn't do one? So I guess I will find out this week somemore.

Will keep you up to date.
PS Sorry for being doh! What do you mean the difference between labouring in the pool and delivering in it? I know, first timer, I don't have a clue

I am sure you're are right: water would be v supportive for you in labour. Sympathies on the SPD -'tis rotten; I had it v slightly last time, but not this time round .

Re labouring or delivering in pools: AFAIK different hospital vary on whether they will let you labour in water but insist you get out for the actual delivery (insurance/training reasons mainly). Although, how on earth you'd get a heavily pregnant woman in transition out of pool against her wishes is beyond me... .

Wishaw does not have wireless monitoring equipment, as I thought, BTW.

Have you had a membrane sweep yet? If your cervix is 'favourable' that might be enough to set you off and would not technically count as "induction".

Good luck!

A friend advised me yesterday that when she was in last week a lady did give birth in the pool, so that sounds positive
Also - my baby is now 4/5 palpable so mw tried a sweep but couldn't as cervix is too high and I've been booked in for induction on sunday - wow, here we go!
I'll keep you posted, ps good luck to you too xx

Oh, exciting, good luck for Sunday .

I also spoke to somebody today whose daughter had given birth in the pool - so it does actually happen !
