Hi,

I've moved to cornwall and I'm 16wks pg.

I am booked into penrice birthing center (st Austell) to have the baby (will be DC3).

Seems quite nice and the staff seem friendly.

I was just hopeing that somone here has some experiance of penrice.

My other option (and I would be transfered there if any problems) is Trelisk.

I've heard some bad things about about Trelisk so am a bit .

Thanks Loopy,

I will look that up now

I'm not sure about a HB (although I know a MLU can offer me no more 'treatment' than a MW can give me at home)
I would be a bit worried about my other DC (aged 2 & 8) and thus not able to fully concentrate on labour.
A MLU seems to me like the 'middle ground' IYKWIM.

I have given birth at treliske twice and went there postnatally after dc4 - it's fine! Plus you won't need to stay in long anyway if everything goes ok.

kinnies · 13/02/2010 16:57

Thanks scorps

I was told that they are a bit under staffed and can be a bit snappy.

I guess you get good and bad in most places though and it must depend on how many women go in to labour at the same time!

I think I'll ask Trelisk if I can have a look round the labour ward when they're not too busy.

They do tours I've never had any snapiness there, they've always helped, just as any labour ward they do get very busy sometimes. The BF support there is amazing.

Hi, I know it's a bit different but I had an erpc at treliske recently and the staff were great, friendly, and really supportive and sympathetic.

HelishAngel · 14/02/2010 03:32

Oh wow...have they re-opened...I had my middle lad there in 1996 and it was a fab experience. The room was a real home from home. Obviously that is going back a bit so things will have changed, for the better I'm sure!

15 months later I had my youngest at Treliske. Again, nothing but praise for the staff and treatment I received but again it is going back a good few years.

I'm now 33+2 with DC4 and living in another County so won't have the Kernow experience but the very best of luck to those of you that will...hope it all goes smoothly no matter where you end up!

Hi im in cornwall too and am currently 37+4 with DC2. i had my first at treliske and the delivery suite was fantastic - nice staff, clean, private room and my CM took me in from home and stayed with me for the delivery, i was not aware that she left me and my Dh for more than a few minuites throught the whole labour but then i was pretty out of it on the G&A .

my only complaint was with the postnatal ward. my MW had me sent there for the night as i was exhausted and was worried about feeding etc. the night was awful, the staff were just overstretched and i could not even get a glass of water for 12 hrs! then when my DH came to collect me in the morning and we noticed someone elses blood spattered over my bed curtains! .

so in short if you deliver at treliske - you want to go home straight from delivery suite!.

i liked the idea of penrice this time as i have yet to meet someone who has had a bad experience there, everyone says how lovley it is and the support after is fantastic. but my DH wont hear of it as the baby would have St Austell on its birth certificate i know, i know!

so im hoping for a homebirth

sorry its a bit long but i hope its helpful, good luck.x

pixiestix · 14/02/2010 12:29

Lol at St Austell on the birth certificate! I know how he feels - I am pg, and in London at the moment, but will be going back to Kernow asap - there is no way this baby is being born the wrong side of the Tamar!

kinnies · 14/02/2010 12:42

Lol at St austell bashing!

Its not as pretty as the rest of cornwall.

I'm quite looking forward to having a cornish baby!

Tell me, after my last two births (in the south east) the Mw made me tea and toast. Will I get a cream tea and a pasty? >>hopful

sorry Kinnies! i got nothing after my DS was born. the staff were so busy it just got forgotton. glad i took snacks and drinks in my hospital bag as the promised glass of water never materialised and the hand wash basins in the bathrooms were too small to drink out of .

jumblequeen · 17/02/2010 10:44

Jealous! I'm from Cornwall (Mousehole) and was born at Trelisk. Both DP and I are Cornish so it did cross our minds to return to the motherland for the birth... but have decided to remain in London (not sure we could deal with two extended Cornish families at such close range!)

Very best of luck, whatever you decide to do

kinnies · 17/02/2010 19:26

Aw thanks Jumblequeen.

Good luck in London
