Slightly embarrasing question...

When you empty your bowels before labour or during labour, is it like liquid? runny? or solid?

Sorry I am just preparing myself, I have 2 weeks to go, and I am really nervous, just trying to get my facts right.

Thanks

Diarrhoea can be a sign labour is about to start, but doesn't always happen.

I didn't want to know about the during-labour poo and true to his word DP won't tell me!

sophiejoandbump · 13/02/2010 10:58

Yes i have told my dp not to let me know about any during labour poo, as I will not care then but may care after...especially since I am hoping for a water birth

I never had any squits or anything when I went into labour

dh said I didn't meed to know if I did it during labour so I have no idea if I did or not

tbh you may have the squits early on and will be fine to deal with it etc

and you may have a poo (runny or otherwise) during labour but you dont even need to think about it as the midwife will deal with it and you'll never even need to know about it

I was worried about this too!

With both DS's I had 'loose' poo a couple of days before and on the day, but once labour started nothing and for 3 days after.

Even if you do poo in labour don't worry,
a) you prob won't care
b) Saves you doing it in days after birth which can be scarey!

sophiejoandbump · 13/02/2010 12:06

thanks guys, is really helpful, I am so scared lol

With both DC had had several bowel movements, the former of which were "normal" and the later of which were v loose and then very liquid in early labour (like when contractions 10 minutes apart, still at home in toilet etc).

Didn't do a poo during advanced labour or for days after....

SilveryMoon · 14/02/2010 13:34

I didn't have anything at all like that with ds1. I went to the toilet the day before he was born, but that fit into my normal pattern iyswim.
I did a bit while giving birth to ds2, but the mw didn't mention it, didn't make a fuss, it was just cleaned up and moved on.
I was worried about it before hand, but come to it, I didn't care.
Me and dp laugh about it now.

Bumbleconfusus · 14/02/2010 15:19

I had slightly loose poo (mmm) when I went into labour, and thought through the whole time i was going to poo myself during labour (because DD was pressing on my bowels), so kept running back and forth to the toilet at the hospital (but always minded to wash my hands, even during contractions), but never did actually poo again until the next day after she was born (so normal timing). When DD was handed to me she had poo on her and I started to apologise to the midwife and my mother and DH, only to be informed that I had stayed poo-free and it was in fact DD's very first bowel movement. It had never occurred to me that she would poo when she was born...

Lulumama · 14/02/2010 15:23

not everyone does poo

and if you do, you won't really know, and if you are aware, teh midwife will whip it away before you have a chance to think.

there is a lot of goo and fluid and stuff close to delivery, a bit of poo will barely register

CoupleOfKooks · 14/02/2010 15:24

god i don't know
i didn't look round to see, you are kind of pre-occupied with other stuff, like a giant head coming out of your fanjolele
