Hmm, my bits feel VERY odd after having a baby 2 weeks ago - anything to worry about?

I had a 2nd degree tear, big baby, but otherwise straightforward birth. All going well, but this evening in the shower i noticed a sort of heavy feeling and when I looked with a mirror (averting my eyes from my horrible stitches!) I think I could see some bits of my insides a bit too close to the outside iyswim... feel like my uterus mighbe lower than it should be?

Is it just a case of doing more pelvic floors or do you think I should go and get it checked? Midwife has discharged me so it would be GP...

I felt like my bits were falling out about 2 weeks after, particularly when walking. However they did revert to normal with pelvic floors. I'm sure you will be fine, but might be worth getting checked out if still the same in a couple of days?

Thanks lou, reassuring - anyone else or is it just us?

I don't understand, skin/tissue from inside your vagina is now hanging out?

hiya sushi -

i had a second degree after dd (my first) and was really freaked by the state of my nethers after. i remember feeling like my insides were going to drop out via my fanjo. unpleasant. heavy feeling is a good description - standing up too long felt weird. also remember taking a look and was horrified- all seemed very mashed up and wrong.

it seemed to just sort itself out and two years, and one more baby, later all is good again.

however, i think you should ask MW or HV to take a look. quite standard to ask for that kind of check and they ask if they want you to check stiches anyway. i'm sure they will say all fine and then hopefully you can feel better.

congrats on baby

Don't look at it, get GP or MW to have a peek if you are worried but I'm sure it's fine.

I completely freaked myself out by checking wiht a mirror a few weeks after DS1. I was traumatised and sure that they had sewn me shut or something. Nope- it was just post-birth nether-trauma.

Nice baths, tea tree oil and a few more weeks, you'll be fine.

Oh and congratulations BTW.

I also felt like this after 2 weeks ! now 3 weeks and feeling fine. Think must of been a combination of stitches, piles and bruising. Pelvic floor exercises helped along with tea tree/lavender in the bath.

Get your GP to examine you, if necessary you can be referred to physio for pelvic floor training, this is standard practise in other countries and is very useful.

Go have and get it checked - it may be that you have a little bit of a prolapse but it is very important that you have someone check it for you. Try not to look yourself as you will just worry more and more. Make sure that you have it checked when you are upright as it may not be so obvious when laying down.

That said, the heaviness thing is really quite common and may pass but really it is worth getting it checked. I have never been quite the same since baby number three although no major tearing or anything and now pregnant with number 4 so it will have to wait - it has got better over the time since he was born though - slowly but surely.

Make sure you are doing your pelvic floor exercises CONSTANTLY! If you cant remember, do them everytime you feed baby.

OhCarolina · 14/02/2010 09:25

can completely empathise with heavy feeling after suffering 2nd degree tear. Did pelvic floor exercises and after about 4 weeks felt pretty normal. But i did the exercises constantly which i think is key.

I had the same, my ds is now 3 and a half weeks and it did change when he was about 2 weeks, felt like I had suddenly turned into an old lady and could hardly get up! I did mention it to the MW and she said it was prob my stitches disolving or had disolved and so my poor PF not yet used to it!

I've had big babies and 2nd degree both times and I do remember with dd I felt like things were almost dropping out but already afte ds it does feel a bit better. Doing my PF for th first few weeks had no affect at all but now I can feel a bit of 'resistance' so to speak .
