is the weight being estimated from a growth scan?
if so, i wouldn't worry too much, they're notoriously unreliable!

Well more my bump size and the fact I have got 4 weeks further in this time.....what do you think??

no experience im afraid as im still awaiting my number 2 after a straightforward first labour. but im sure you will be fine.

is your midwife concerned?

you say it was straightforward last time and second babies are supposed to be faster / much easier so hopefully the worst you can hope for is that it will be the same as your first birth, as the extra size just adds a little more strech

dont stress as apparrently your state of mind has more influence on the labour you have than the size of baby.

Good luck.xxx

Thanks mad4mainecoons scary isn't it!

agree, second labours are generally quicker and easier as your body has already done it once before

have also heard it said that it's easier to birth a larger baby as their weight helps when pushing down/gravity all that kind of thing.

am sure you;'ll be fine

Not sure about how/whether the weight makes a difference (DD2 was only 6 oz heavier than DD1) but labour was definitely faster second time round. My first labour was very straightforward, no intervention, maybe about 12 hours from start to finish but it's hard to pinpoint exactly when it started (I was in labour in hospital for 5 hours before DD1 was born). Second time round, labour lasted two hours and DD2 was born 10 minutes after we got to the hospital. So after two straightforward labours, my only concern when pregnant with DS was whether we'd actually make it to the hospital in time. And then I ended up having an emergency caesarean two weeks before my due date as he had the umbilical cord wrapped twice round his neck. So you can never tell - but generally speaking, I think that if there aren't any complications like I had you can probably expect a quicker and easier (if it can ever be called easy...) labour.

2nd labours are usually easier, and as others have said, scans and bump size can be very unreliable for sizing, and large babies are not necessarily more difficult to birth anyway, unless you have GD making baby's shoulders overly chubby.
When a 2nd labour is more difficult it will usually be because of problems such as baby not being in the best position.

I had dd1 20 months ago - Straight forward labour, 2.5 hours long, 2nd degree tear and graze. She was 7lb 1 oz.

I had dd2 last week - Great labour, 1.50 hours long, tiny weeny tear not even worth telling me about, no stitches. She was 8lb 13oz.

The difference for me - With dd1 I was on the bed on my back to deliver, dd2 I was kneeling on the bed hanging over the headboard. I couldnt believe how much bigger dd2 was but it was such much easier the 2nd time. And I really enjoyed it!

Good luck

Well done you mama2moo and congratulations!!! Hope your enjoying being a mummy of 2.

Interesting about kneeling......my midwife advised against it, as I was worried about another tear?????? She was keen for very controlled, sitting up etc....making me wonder now!

1st labour was great, 2nd also straightforward but more intense as faster. Both full-term big babies (9lb 5oz and 9lb respectively).

Easy labour & birth with both.
No tears or stitches with either.

With second, didn´t have any pains until 8cm.

Gave birth 2hrs later.
Dozed for half an hour of that.
