we are due to have dc4 in the summer, and i suffer with severe spd after dc3 the after pains were very uncomfortable. I have read many articles about using an abdominal binder postpartum to help everything back into place and to relieve some discomfort from the after pains

has anyone used any? if so which ones are best?

Hi I'm a first timer and I have SPD but I just wanted to add my own experiences for you.

When I was given a support belt this made me worse. The pain at the back seemed to be helpd but the pain in my pubic bone - oh god. It was like it was being crunched together and clicking all the time I walked.
I couldn't understand as surely it was to support me? My physio wasn't very helpful and said that the condition would not resolve until I had given birth. Given that I was in so much pain and refused to beliefe this I sought out a private chiropractor. I wasn't very keen as obviously it costs money.

However, that aside - he advised that my right hip and shoulder were higher than the left thus causing an imbalance through my pelvic region. Also that due to this and the hormone relaxin coursing through the body he found that my pubic bone was becoming out of alignment and becoming overlapped. This explains the crunching noises I think.

To cut to the chase, in case there is any misalignment in your body after the birth could you see someone to have it treated rather than bind yourself up - I mean you don't want to bind up and be in the wrong positions, potentially this may cause you more long term damage? I hope to get some sessions after I give birth and then see if I can strengthen things up with maybe some pilates (I'm trying to sound hopeful, at the moment I struggle to get up a few stairs ...)

Perhaps if you can see a physio on nhs they could help you out - I have read many forums where physios are clued up on this condition, it's just a pity that mine wasn't and that made me pay for treatment elsewhere. I have also read good things about osteopaths too?
