Had a planned c section 2 weeks and 3 days ago. Bleeding stopped after about 10 days (it was never heavy). On wed nite exactly 2 weeks after section i had 2 gushes of blood, went to hospital who gave me anti biotics incase of infection, had no more blood after the gushes. Today i have had another 2 gushes, have rang hospital who said just keep an eye on it. Has anyone else experienced this or got any advice, i am jst concerned as bleeding had stopped and the blood is bright red,so fresh.

I had my 5th c-section 13 weeks ago and only stopped bleeding completely at about 7 weeks, like you had itermittant 'gushes' sorry tmi! Am fine now and hopefully won't have anything else until I have stopped breastfeeding! Try not to worry and just keep an eye on it I suppose. Congratulations btw!

Hi,
This should settle, however if you are having crampy pelvic pain and the 'gushes' continue despite anti-biotics then it is worth having a pelvic scan to exclude any remnant of placenta or membranes within the uterine cavity as an underlying cause. Most of the time this is not the case but if there is significant tissue retained then this may require a small surgical procedure to remove it (like a 'D&C') to resolve the issue.

I had intermittent gushes of blood up to about 8 weeks, they tended to coincide with times when I'd been a little more active than usual, just if I'd been walking, light housework etc. It was nothing to worry about and eventually stopped.

Please try not to worry, I had this after both my c sections and I know it can be alarming. After my 1st I had something as strong as a period after 6 weeks, it really frightened me but the midwife told me to stop tryi ng to do so much for a few days and it stopped.

After my second section I was a lot gentler with myself about trying to get back to normal with housework & getting out and about, but I still had gushes of bright blood a few times here and there up to about 8 weeks, usually just after I'd tried to do something new because I was feeling a bit stronger! Last time I had a small bleed after I'd gone to sleep in my favourite position on my side for the first time in weeks!

If you are soaking a pad, or there is an unpleasant smell, speak to someone. Otherwise, try not to let it freak you out - difficult, I know, as you wonder what's going on in there!

Sorry slight hijack here...

Lucy in answer to your questions....I am fine, not sore and actually have healed better this time than any of the others the only problem I had was that I had horrendous headaches due to the spinal which could have been righted if I had wanted to go back into theatre, I didn't and chose to let it run it's course (about 8 weeks! looking back I should have sorted it and made a fuss).

My first 2 c-sections were emergencies, pre eclampsia, my 3,4 and 5th were all elective, I wasn't aware that it could have been possible for VBA2C.
Like yours my family were very worried and by the time no 5 was in bump form actually quite negative, but we went to see our consultant to get advice beforehand. He was brilliant went through everything that had gone on during my other sections plus all the risks, so I would strongly advise going to see a consultant before you make any decisions.

The pregnancy no.5 went really well, but I had alot of guilt feelings because at the end of the day I had 4 healthy children and was selfishly putting my feelings of one more first, during the pregnancy decided that I would be sterilised at the birth and this was my last baby, hard decision to make but by far the most sensible!

The choice to be sterilised would have been taken out of my hands if I had not previously made it, when the consultants performed the section they found that they could actually see baby through the wall of the uterus, we were very lucky.

I feel very blessed to have my children and of course it was worth all the worry.

You will get lots of negativity but if your consultant supports you and you are aware of the dangers it is you and your dp/dh's decision at the end of the day! Hope this helps and doesn't scare you.....good luck, if you want to chat further let me know!

Mummytopebs...Once again sorry for the hijack and 'me' post.
