Anyone manage a hospital birth without water or epidural in last year?

I must confess a motive here. I'm writing an article about 'what labour really feels like' and I'm looking to chat to someone (for five mins) who managed to have a natural birth in hospital, perhaps even induced, without epidural or water. Pethidine/gas and air is fine. Surprisingly hard to find. Seems that most people either go down medicalised route, having epidural and the works, or they rely on water to fend off need for epidural. Would love to hear from anyone who managed a normal hospital birth in the last year and wouldn't mind telling me about it for five mins.

I had a four hour labour, with pethidine about half way in. In September of last year. 2nd labour, first I was induced and screaming for an epi at 9cm dialated.

Yes it did hurt but after the pethidine i slept through most of it and only woke up for the pushing stage which only lasted 11 minutes.

i had no gas or air for either children. were quite speedy though. let me know if you are interested in chatting?

popsycal · 03/02/2010 18:17

i had one sept 2008

ConnorTraceptive · 03/02/2010 18:20

Not in the last year but two years ago.

My 1st labour was epidural and the works!

Shitemum · 03/02/2010 18:21

Both mine were in hospitals (2003 and 2006) and with no pain relief at all as the only option was epidural which I didn't want.
This was in Spain where they don't do gas and air

bronze · 03/02/2010 18:23

Yes in april
He was my fourth though but not my quickest ( I cant do gas and air)

bronze · 03/02/2010 18:24

meant to say I'm fine for you to contact me

cassell · 03/02/2010 18:34

yes I did in april last year, my first, only had gas & air (ds was born only an hour after we got to the hospital so not having epidural/pethidine was lack of time rather than choice!)

happy for you to contact me

I have not used water or epidural for any of my babies births but they were 4+ years ago.

Trampoline · 03/02/2010 21:42

I gave birth last Jan 09 in hospital without any pain relief/interventions - happy to chat about it!

IzziesMummy · 03/02/2010 22:08

DS born August 2009. I was induced and had waters broken for me about 11:30pm. DS born at 1:34am following a fast and furious labour (4mins pushing according to my notes)with only gas and air as pain relief. Happy to tell you more!

ruddynorah · 03/02/2010 22:10

yes i did 10 weeks ago. just gas and air.

scotlass · 03/02/2010 22:18

I gave birth 9mths ago in hospital with no interventions at all - not even gas and air.

Only got to hospital in time to push though so not sure if it counts.

happy to chat

DD born in June. Was induced at 38 wks (as I have type 1 diabetes, there is absolutely no chance of doing it 'naturally'). Really quick and easy labour with just gas and air.

Really quite chuffed about it actually, as when DS was induced 3 years ago it was epidural, 3rd degree episiotomy and ventouse delivery.

Only too pleased to show off about it some more!

deleting · 03/02/2010 22:23

i had no pain relief with any of mine (3dcs) -not even gas and air. not really by choice though. last one 7 mths ago.

I have had three births all without any pain relief but they were fast 2hrs, 2.5hrs (At home) and 25 minutes in 2005,2007 and 5 months ago in 2009. Nearly got a whiff of gas and air with the last one but the nozzle broke as i went to take my 1st puff and by the time it was fixed it was all over

ShiriDoula · 03/02/2010 22:24

I attended one just like it, three days ago. (no induction, no epidural, a little g&a, no water). what do you need to know?

LovelyBertha · 03/02/2010 22:25

see, i'm that pleased with myself, i've told you twice.

Suburbanite · 03/02/2010 22:25

I had no pain relief - DS2 is one week old today! Managed to live without the kind offer of paracetamol
Happy to talk.

gaelicsheep · 03/02/2010 22:33

Yay Suburbanite - someone else who was offered paracetamol in labour! What are they thinking of? Do they think we're in hospital just for fun?!

I would argue on principle that I meet the OP's criteria because I while I did use water for a while this was not to avoid an epidural. I came out at transition (to be catheterised, yuck) and had 3 1/2 hour second stage with nothing but gas & air, which I coudn't breathe anyway. But unfortunately this was 3.5 years ago so no use.

I had a lovely labour and birth, didnt realise was in labour until was 7cm dialated, straight to hospital,no gas and air, midwife broke waters for me then four big pushes later lovely DD was with us.
Love telling that story but seldom do as scared will get a telling off for being smug (but I am a wee bit smug about it)

MrsKitty · 03/02/2010 23:16

I had a hospital labour 18 weeks ago - only G&A for pain relief.

Had Gestational Diabetes so was expecting very medical birth with monitors/drips/induction etc but was a spontaneous labour, pretty quick (4 hours or so) and didn't even need the insulin they had predicted.
