epesiotomy scar, still bleeding 20 weeks later. Anyone know why?

Hi everyone, sorry if this is TMI, but i thought I would cast this one out t ye wise MNers.

I gave birth to my DD 20 weeks ago, she became distressed at the end, so was delivered by ventouse. I had to have an epesiotomy for this.

I healed pretty well after the birth, though the midwife said my paticular consultant was known for being a "large cutter" and told me she could spot his handy work a mile off .

Anyway, about 7/8 weeks after the birth my scar would sometimes bleed, and become very "stingy".

I saw the doctor, who told me that while I had healed, my body was producing too much scar tissue, and that it would sort itself out in a few weeks time.Fast forward 14 weeks and it is still bleeing, and still stings. I'm sure this can't be right so long after the birth.

Does anyone have any experience of this, or know what might be wrong/what might cause it?

I know I should go back to my GP,but I'm a procrastinator, and, truth be told, am a little bit terrfied!

TIA for any pearls of wisdom!

I still had some bleeding about 20 weeks after DD's birth although mine was caused by "poor healing", which doesn't seem to be your case. However, it did sting and feel uncomfortable still. I was sent by my gp to a consultant who advised it would get better after 6 months and to go back if not... and it did! So I'd go see your gp again, but mine definitely took 6 months to heal properly.

Thank You greenbeans...it is at least reassuring to know that it sounds pretty normal, and I'm not the only one. Have been brave and booked a doctor's apt for next week. Thanks for your reply!

Hi, this can happen but it is not normal in the sense that you should completely ignore it. Have you yourself looked at the scar from the outside or felt it? Is the bleeding coming from inside or outside and is it triggered by anything (sex, bike riding etc)or does it just start for no reason?
I really would recommend returning to the doctor who will hopefully refer you for a follow up with the consultant. Chances are it may be fine but rather than risk problems later on id pop back to the GP.
