Help! Am having a (hopefully) irrational panic re booking in for homebirth - can anyone reassure?

I'm 36 weeks on Sunday and planning a homebirth. I made it clear at my booking in appointment and it is written down in my pregnancy notes. I didn't have my 34 week appointment with my regular midwife and homebirth wasn't mentioned but I just assumed it would all be fine. Yesterday I was chatting with a friend and she asked if I had booked in for a homebirth. I am now panicking that when I see my midwife on Tuesday she will say it's too late to book one. Is anyone able to reassure me please?

it's never too late. they might tell you it is, but it isn';t.
you could decide to have one when you go into labour and they'd have to send someone so please don't panic

Phew, thanks tiy. I thought you could decide right up to the last minute but couldn't find anything to confirm. Hopefully all will be fine then

Nope not too late. I've mentioned my intention to have a home birth at every appt since my booking appt at 8 weeks but they won't actually book it until your 36 wk appt (at which point I will be 36+6) because everything needs to be straight forward in your pregnancy. If they book too early you may develop a complication which would mean having to un-book it.

where I live the midwives do the 36 week check at your home if you are going for a homebirth. They bring round a box of equipment they will use for the birth plus arrange for the entonox. They also check the suitability of the home situation.

I would call your midwife on Monday to confirm the home birth. You don't want to be going into labour at 37 weeks to be told you can't have a home birth as they've not done the home visit.
