BH or contraction?

I'm 37+5 with 3rd pregnancy. I've been having braxton hicks on and off for the last week or so. About 30 mins ago I had terrible stomach pains/tightening along with a hot sweat, felt very dizzy and sick. It lasted about 2-3 mins but it took my breath away! I had an EMCS with DD at 39+5 and an ELCS with DS at 38 weeks. I'm due an ELCS in 9 days. Do you think it was just a BH? BTW saw doctor this morning and she said baby was 3/5ths engaged. Not sure if this makes any difference! Thanks

a BH will stop if you move or change position

a contraction will carry on

BH can be very painful

it goes without saying that if you think you are in labour to call your labour ward

Have a bath or a lie down. If it stops, it's BH.

Thanks rubyslippers. It didn't go away when I moved (was in process of collecting DS from nursery!) but has gone away now. Could it be something else other than a contraction then?

You'd think I'd have a clue about all this third time round! Thinking about it, I guess it did go away when I moved as it only lasted 2-3 mins. I've never had a BH which was that painful though!

I had a BH which lasted 20 minutes when i was 38 weeks. It was like a rectal spasm and I couldn't stand up. That was with DS3. Every pregnancy is different so don't worry about not having a clue. I lay down for half an hour, the midwife monitored me and was happy that it was a big BH and nothing to worry about.

Oh my goodness, never realised BH's could be like that! When did DS3 make an appearance IloveGregoryHouse?

It could be the baby changing position. That's what it sounds like to me.

He came bang on time. Labour at 40 weeks (I knew, cos it didn't go when I got in the bath which resulted in a shrill phone call to DH to get the fuck home right now or else), DS3 turned up at 5.25am 40+1. Btw, he wasn't fully engaged even when I was 6cm.

I agree could also be baby changing position and putting his foot/hand/shoulder down on your unmentionables.

Thanks for advice guys! No more bad pains, just twinges so think it must have been BH's or, as you say baby changing position.
