they offered skin to skin but I wanted him wrapped whilst they stitched me up. They were lovely.

I explicitly told the midwife I wanted DS on me asap and I was feeding him while being stitched up. Caused no problems whatsoever.

madwomanintheattic · 24/01/2010 19:52

skin to skin whilst being stitched.

slightly surreal german cs though - none of this 'up and about' malarkey - forced to lie flat on your back for what seems like months... anyway - they kept the babies in the nursery, and brought them in, latched them on, then came back and collected them back to the nursery with alarming regimen. seemed to work ok though. i had absolutely no choice in th matter lol.

About 30 mins after her popping out.... but then suddenly... during idilic first feeding moemtn was bleeding heavy and went back in. Didn;t see her for a while after that

Next time if I have a CS I want her/him on me as much as possible...

Both DC had their first feed in the recovery room, so more or less within 30 minutes of being born. Once they were removed from me, the paediatrician checked them and handed them straight back to be (that was within 3 minutes) and I held them, until feeling a bit faint and handing over to DH.

5 days but he took to it very well. He was starving.

In recovery -had spinal - fine no probs breastfeeding despite pph

Ilovemybed · 24/01/2010 20:14

I think I had skin-on-skin with ds about 2mins after they took him out, while they were stitching me back up. I think he latched on in the recovery room, but I don't really remember. It was lovely, had a spinal, e-c-section.

good luck!

My blood pressure was going nuts just after DD1 was born so I wasn't allowed to hold her but DH had her wrapped up next to my head for a bit. As soon as they had finished and everything was being packed down the MW unwrapped DD1 and put her on my chest for the walk to recovery and then let herself down by 'helping' me latch her on in that time honoured method -
Grab breast, grab baby's head, shove together

LilRedWG · 24/01/2010 20:18

DH had skin to skin in theatre and I put her to my breast within the hour.

paisleyleaf · 24/01/2010 20:23

Same as LilRedWG.
DH waited with DD for me in recovery. I think it was nice that they got that cuddle for a while.

ImSoNotTelling · 24/01/2010 20:24

In recovery both times so about 30 mins.

DD1 emcs fed for 14 months
DD2 elcs 6 months and still going

All fine

Sniff - I had an emC/S and then a big bleed so I'm honestly not sure tbh . I really wanted skin to skin and instant feeding in my idea of the birth, but things went rather off on a tangent, and I was knackered, my partner was too shocked to ask and we'd never thought about what we wanted if it had come to a c/s. I think a midwife tried to syringe some colostrum off about eight hours later as I laid there totally zonked in high dependency, and then I eventually got help to properly feed him another 8 hours later.
Mind he bfs like a trooper now, at five months!

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 25/01/2010 15:38

I guess this depends a lot on whether it's elective or emergency...

Mine was "emergency" (though not really that urgent) and I think it was probably about 1-2 hours, though my memory is hazy. I didn't hold him at all in theatre as I had been in labour for 2 days, was shattered and had the shakes so I don't think I would have been capable! Then had to get stitched up etc, but I think I tried fairly soon once we got onto recovery ward.

TBH though he was not really interested anyway until about 12 hours later, he was really sleepy for the first day (possibly some after-effects of drugs or just the long labour?) but just around bedtime he went into a feeding frenzy and kept me up all night rooting away, the little monkey!

The reason the babies aren't allowed in recovery is that the same theatre which is used for CS's is also used for hysterectomies etc and they feel it's wrong for a woman who has had surgery which means she will never have a baby in recovery with a baby. Mainly because Dublin hospitals are in old buildings and there is no scope for expansion.
