VBAC (with GA)

Last time I was pregnant I had to have what I like to call a semi-elective C-section as I developed polyhydramnios at around 37 weeks. I also have Spina Bifida and was informed that it was not in my best interests to have an epidural or spinal block, so my op was carried out under general anaesthetic. Although my recovery was fairly speedy I felt disappointed that I was unable to try to deliver my baby naturally. I am 18 weeks pregnant now and this time my consultant has agreed that, as long as my labour is spontaneous, I can "have a go". However, I have to say that I am slightly concerned that I will end up needing an emergency section. Wondering if this is the right thing to do. Should I give it a try? I really hate the thought of having another major op under GA.

if your choice is basically another elective under GA, or a trial of labour possibly followed by an emcs under GA, then I think i'd go for the vbac

that's the only way you're going to have a chance at not having to have the GA surely?

I would have thought that if the consultant has agreed and you really don't want GA then you would be right to 'have a try' - it sounds as if the consultant has given a measured decision - ie he/she is neither an absolute 'take no-risks must have another section'/nor a gung-ho VBACer, so I would follow the advice. Best wishes with whatever you decide.
