Elective Section on Monday and now have a cold

I'm due to have an elective section on Monday morning at 39 weeks. This morning I have woken up with a horrid cold, headache, blocked up nose, the works, which is just about par for the course for this pregnancy!

If I can't shift this over the weekend, are they likely to delay my section? I think I might do something drastic if I get to the hospital on Monday and they send me home. I am so uncomfortable, I am literally counting the hours until this baby is here.

You could ring your Midwife and ask her what will happen? At least that would put your mind at rest.

On the other hand if you were still poorly on Monday, would you want to have a baby to feed and a very sore tummy on top to deal with?

i think it's only if you have a tempature, not sure though.

I had a cold at the end of both my pregnancys i dont know if maybe that your body just gets run down or something

good luck

I too think its to do with temperature, lots of babies are delivered in worst scenarios than a heavy cold though, Id ring the midwife and take cold relief tabs G'luck x

Thanks for your replies.

I'm hoping that this is just me being silly and the cold is all in my head. I'm getting very anxious about having the section. DD was delivered by crash section and I had all sorts of complications hence the reason for an ELCS this time round. The thought of having a spinal block makes me feel ill!

Oh well, I'll keep knocking back the paracetamol and see what my Consultant says on Monday. Sadly my midwife is on leave this week and in my experience Labour Ward will say come and and see what happens on Monday morning!

Ah youll be fine honestly .....my firstc sect was an emergency and it was awful i was under G.A my poor baby was v poorly etc etc we both survived despite him being given hours to live and having suspected brain damage .....2 years later i had another G.A for an elcs .....then 5 years after that i had a spinal block and had ds3 and it was fine - better than fine actually had him at 9 ish in the morning was getting feeling back by lunch and felt on top of the world in fact 2 days later I went home - its gonna be ok.

Yep i'm feeling quite coldy myself and am booked in for tuesday - i'm hoping it doesn't get worse.

Speaking as a nurse- it is highly unlikely they cancel your CS because you have a cold- unless ofcourse you have a temperature. you'd have to have a seriously impressive cold in order to get the operation cancelled.

ShiriDoula you have made my weekend!

Cold is still here, and I was toying with phoning Labour Ward to ask their advice. But on reflection, I think I will just go in tomorrow morning and see my Consultant. He knows how awful my last delivery was and how awful this pregnancy has been, so with a bit of luck baby No 2 will arrive as planned tomorrow.
